Quite disappointing the club hasn't even bothered to post about the Junior Reps.

Alx, the only thing i can think of in defence would be to highlight and put unnecessary pressure on these boys. The damage televised under 18 games a couple of years back gave with premature exposure to some players too early ( Mundene etc ) that didn't help their progress at all. Most of us here didn't have a clue about the star studded Ball side that has given us 4 or 5 potential NRL players so that must be the track they are going down but George is best to answer this.

Harold Matthews Cup 2021: The young stars already on a path to being NRL stars

February 5, 2021

JC Ngarima (Illawarra Steelers)

A big bopper who is quickly working out how to use his impressive size. Steelers coaches estimate that the teenager is already 180cm tall and weighs over 100kg. Ngarima signed a four-year contract with the Dragons after a stellar 2019 season with the Canberra Raiders’ Harold Matts side. That same year, he was part of the NSWCCC team that took out the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League Championships. Illawarra expect the edge back rower to add serious impact.

Nicholas Tsougranis (St George Illawarra Dragons)

Local junior from Arncliffe Scots who has taken his footy to another level this pre-season. Runs hard, tackles hard. Leads the way with fitness, attitude and the first to volunteer for extras. Has developed his passing and kicking game over the last 12 months. Tsougranis will vice-captain the Dragons’ Harold Matts side.

Ngarima ready for Dragons challenge after successful year
JULY 30 2019 - 9:37AM

Wollongong will soon play host to one of rugby league's brightest talents, with 15-year-old JC Ngarima set to join the St George Illawarra Dragons.

Ngarima recently signed a four-year contract with the Dragons after starring with the Canberra Raiders' Harold Matthews squad in 2019.

He backed up the long-term contract by winning the Australia Secondary Schools Rugby League Championships with the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges team earlier this month.

JC's dad, Peter, said it had been a massive year for his son.

"We had the Country Championships last October, and he was given a shot at trialling with the Raiders," he said. "He was selected in their 25-man squad, and started every game for them this year.

"He's now signed the four-year contract with St George Illawarra, and they've given him the option to play either in Sydney or Wollongong. We obviously picked Wollongong.

"The Raiders also offered him a deal, but they didn't really give him a plan for the future. The Dragons came on board, gave us a plan for the future, and are looking at him for under 20s and potentially first grade.

"We like what they're offering, what they've got to develop him as a player, so we picked them."

Mr Ngarima said the experience in Redcliffe was "awesome".

"He enjoyed it because he got to play with a lot of the boys he's been playing against since primary school," he said. "It was a really great bunch of kids.

"He was a little bit upset with himself because he knew he had the chance to crack the Australian merit team. It's something he wants to work on for next time."

JC's work ethic is what keeps him at the top of his game.

"He's a really humble kid," Mr Ngarima said. "I feel sorry for him sometimes, because he doesn't get the usual teenage experience.

"He doesn't get to go to the parties, he's usually working really hard at the gym.

"He also does what he can for his local clubs. We got back home pretty early on the Saturday morning from Redcliffe, and JC was back playing club footy that afternoon.

"He doesn't think he's a superstar, and I think that's his biggest asset."

Now JC will focus on next year's Harold Matthews competition with the Steelers.

"St George Illawarra told him he didn't have to play Harold Matts next year, but he loves a challenge," Mr Ngarima said. "He wants to compete with the best.

"They've told us to come up for training twice a week, and there are families that can assist us with getting him there."

Only seen JC play a few times but he has pace, a step and an offload
Could turn out to be a great signing.

I watched a televised (foxtel) Illawarra Sports High game in 2019 v Hallam Vic.

Illawarra side had Josh Coric, both Feagai brothers, Jackson Shereb-Schmidt.

All the boys produced big games.

A very good showing was also given by Phoenix Vetenibua-Finnerty playing at 13 (think Cameron Murray).

Looking forward to seeing their progress.

(Needless to say they were too classy for Hallam and ran out easy winners 52-6). :D

Thanks for posting mate, few familiar names there. The future looks bright. Need some of the forwards to develop this year. Really looking forward to seeing our Canterbury Cup squad I’m expecting it to be stacked with youth.
