Just a bit of perspective

After listening to 2GB for most of the afternoon, I was suddenly hit with a bit of perspective when they mentioned that there are ambulances currently driving around with sick and injured patients in them unable to get admittance to the hospitals because they're full.

This got about ten minutes air time, yet the rest of the afternoon has been about a few footballers making a dirty phone call, and drawing pictures of animals with oversized genitalia.

I know which problem I'd rather fix first.

You make a good point, and it is quite shocking how the media love to bring something lik this to the forefront. I remember reading something like this and comparing it to what would happen if the same controversy embroiled an accountancy firm - would it be front page like this? No! So why is it front page news? Because the media want a field day.

Having said that, I will voice my opinion that the Bulldogs sack Mason, I for one have had it with him, he is continually causing problems. O'Meley and Waterhouse should both be suspended from their respective clubs indefinitely like Gasnier and of course all 3 taken off the Origin squad. Enough of the crap, deal with the wrongdoers (this time proven, not like the rape case) and get on with the game. I'm sick of the media having an excuse to marr the game, in particular Origin.

But that won't sell papers.

IMO the media simply reflects the society it is in.

If it did not sell, they would not use it, but it does so they do.

I am no fan of the media, but I simply say, all they do is report what happens, and if it sells, they dig deeper.

Here is a perpective

Do you really think the media would run with these stories if they did not sell?

Then the question is why does society lap this stuff up.

I do realize I am a member of society.

And you have to laugh at the media. This even gets more publicity than the MURDERER Seth Gonzales.

Seems to me they think murder is a lesser crime.

Disgraceful.

And the 700 people who are going to lose their livelyhoods because Mitsibishi are closing down one of their plants.

When these things don't get a bigger reaction than footballers behaving badly, you know there's an overreaction.

Well said, ibeme.

A narrower, footy-only, example of that is the news that the Broncos had the 2-points decision overruled -- I am far more interested in that than a prank call, yet Ch10 barely mentioned it, but gave most of their program over to the Blues woes!

I have to applaud Ch7's sports news though, they lead with the Broncos, then had a round-up of the weekend's games, and left it at that. It showed maturity.
