I am a real newbie when it comes to NFL. I cant seem to figure out a rule..

Whenever i get a chance to watch a game i always wonder what on earth do those numbers mean when it is like 11th and 2 or 7th and 3, something like that anyway. I have always wondered this.

Subby, Subby, Subby....

Firstly I must congratulate you on winning the 92 Melb Cup... I wish I could say that you were carrying a bit of my hard earned but unfortunately, I was on Veandercross ( including the Caulfield cup two weeks before when Dye absolutely butchered it!!!!)

Look, its great that you are developing an interest in NFL, but I wonder if you were seriously in the FD ( fair dinkum) department, couldn't you go to Google.com and type in NFL and Rules and see where that developed??

Really you have the world's greatest source of information at your fingertips....

I'll try my best here. In Gridiron you get 4 downs, i spose you could compare it to 6 tackles in league. Once you run out of downs, you turn the ball over, but you will usually see a punt on the 4th down (much like kicking ahead on the 5th tackle). The major difference though is that it's possible to earn a fresh set of downs. This is where the 2nd number comes into play. It tells you the amount of yards that still need to be travelled for that fresh set of 4 downs to come about. This number starts off at 10 yards for every first down, but is adjusted to the gains or losses made on the field. For exampl, 2nd and 9 means that the offens is up to their 2nd of 4 downs, and still have 9 yards to travel to get a fresh set of downs.

I hope this has cleared things up.

if you dont want to end up screaming at the TV, dont support the Bills.

If you wanna watch an entertaining team Id recommend the Rams when Faulk gets back in 2 weeks or maybe even my mighty Vikings. Then again im biased towards the Vikings, but to me they are one of the more entertaining teams going round

Support the Broncos mate, you can't lose. Big time players and a great coach. The winningest coach in NFL history I think.

listen to paullyboy. he knows wat hes talking about.

as for a team u should support, i dont think u should listen to any of us. go to nfl.com and look at the 32 different teams to chose from. have a look at their records and players and then make a decision. even if its not on how they play just wat colour jearsy's they wear at least it will be your decision.

P.S. it would be even more interesting if u looked around the NFL forum a bit more and chose a team noone else supports. the 'who do u support' thread can help u out there!

*sigh* well its your choice. at least their in the right division. i think BuffaloRules has a new friend.

P.S not to be cruel bill's supporters but just take a look at the "Superbowl: 1967-2004!" thread in this forum. have a look how the bills did in the superbowls in 1991-1994. sorry.

P.S.S the superbowl is the equivalent to the grand final.
