I just had alook at the Russian official Website. The English section hasn't been updated for a while, but the part in russian has, so I put it in a translator. What came out is hard work to decyphor, so I wont post it all here. But here are some talking points.

Discussing their flogging in the European nations Cup.

Russian trenerskiy council underestimated enemy and disregarded Australian and New Zealand legionaries from the number of Russian players playing in the clouds/clubs

Were they considering bringing over some players under the grand parent rule? After the floggings maybe they will bring a few over next year to strengthen the team.

On the Grand Final...

Match was passed with the support Of goskomsporta of Russia, government of Moscow and international federation Of regbi-ye.General sponsor of match? In a cultured way- entertaining center?Arbat?.being simultaneously and the President of the Russian federation Of regbilig (Regbi-ye - unofficial name), the Director-General OF KRTS?Arbat?Akhmet Kamal'dinov for a period of many years carry out the policy of the familiarizing of young people with the healthy means of life.On the schools, the children's houses, military schools and VUZ ╨ - Institute of Higher Education╩ were disseminated more than twenty thousand tickets (joint Goskomsportom action)

So it looks like had supprt from the Russian sports federation, the government of Moscow and they handed out 20000 tickets to kids to help fill the 80000 seat stadium. :)

Locomotive Moscow won the grand final 34-4 over one of the Kazan teams. I think it was the new Kazan team, Energy, but I've forgotten and can't quite work it out on the website.

Energy aren't new, they were the reserve grade team for Arrows but were promoted due to their ability in comparison to clubs like St.Petersburg. Right now the Russian league looks like the Superleague in that it is developing a big 4, with the 3rd Moscow (outer suburbs) club caught in the middle ground.

Below that the clubs are just plodding along, without much funding and really a world away in class. If only they had the numbers to create open age feeder leagues. At this stage only Moscow and maybe Kazan can come close to thinking about that.

Rather than improving Loko, Arrows (Strelle) and Dynamo as the no.1 priority, the RRL needs to look at finding a way forward for other clubs, including giving them opportunities to play fixtures closer to home. Let those big clubs worry about their own issues, they have the funding. Yoshkar-Ola and St.Petersburg are massive rail trips and it can't be a positive at this stage of development.
