Kicking!!!

anybody see the kicking Stats in the Tele the other day?

Quite interesting.
Noddy has kicked moretimes in GP than other with the closest being 30 behind. He was double most other halves.
He was a leader in the try assists, which includes kicks.
he was quite high in the line break assists too.

Most kick breakdowns followed a very similar pattern across all the halves(grubber, long, bomb etc)

180 I think was Noddys total.

1 stat that missing was metres gained off long kicks. Probably the most important & also 40/20 stat was not there.
Overall, a very shoddy statistical display that made it hard to hypothesize.

But I managed 1. Are we kicking too much/ To the detriment of the right side players?

Four times out of five, Noddy's long kicks find open space. He hasn't kicked too many 40-20s this year, but I'm not going to string him up for that.

The thing I like the most about Noddy's kicks is the way he puts backspin on them so they sit down like a golf ball when they land. Very tricky for the opposition to read when they bounce, and they have led to tries in the past.

You don't have to join in DJL.
I think its a talking point.
We have two things happening.
A right side expensive centre that just isn't seeing the pill & we arethe team that kicks it to the opposition the most.

* Jimbo that stat was not in there(4/5).
& Every time Noddy kicks downtown I wish he would not spin it & just kick the f**king thing & get more metres. Open space is great, don't get me wrong, but as long as the kick is going more than 30 metres.

The 4/5 was a guesstimate. I was going to say nine times out of ten, but I was being generous.

The spin is what pulls the ball up in the opposition's in-goal from the halfway line. Beautiful to watch...

I heard the Fox commentators saying Noddy leads the NRL in kicks to open spaces and thought that would be a hard one to measure.
Those short kicks to open spaces where the opposing fullback or winger collects on the bounce and runs 80m is a worry.
I still say a kick is only as good as its chase.
ET was the best kick chaser I've ever seen.
Peach tries hard but ET use to nail them in defence if he couldnt get the ball. It would of been handy having him on the end of Noddy's kicking game.

Foz!!
Peach is blitzing the kick chasers!!
he has nailed 3 in goal this year.
this part of peaches game has gone unrewarded by many this year & for mine, has made BK's kicking game look better than it really is(in the downtown area particularly).

I guess a good experiment with theSharks kicking games will be against Canberra.
1. Sully will be kicking GP
2. ? will be kicking at goal.

I mentioned Peach Reefy because I thought he was doing a good job out of the present lot. (Peach tries hard) He's no Et in this area though.
I dont think the rest are up to scratch. As a result we chase in 1's or 2's and they can be carved up.
A lot of the time its left to Isemonger and Bickerstaff to chase one out. As a result they get left hangin'.

Maybe Noddys short kicks are making Davids chases look good? <hehehe>

vs Canberra I think Noddy will be kicking general play and goal kicks cause I don't think he'll be in SOO

SOO II should see Hill get the No. 6. Won't take the Noddy hater Gus long to realise that an Orford/Hill combo is as good as Kimmorley/Hill

We should have gone after Hill when he was on the market ?
Are there any decent 5/8's on the market after June 30 ??

I think you are a bit hard on Noddy's kicking reefy.

But I agree with you about his back-spin on kicks. There's definitley a time for those type of kicks but I'd like to see him gaining more distance and field position more often.

I think Bk is the most accurate kicker in the game (with Johns out) but lacks some distance. This can be countered by an excellent kick-chase game.

Hope he continues to work with the Swans with his long-kicking.

So you agree with me?
My problems with his kicking is mainly his distance & kick decisions.
the latter will & must improve but the distance is a problem.
If he cant get it there, Sully has to take over or Gallen who I notice has a gigantic kick on him.

Haven't seen galeen kick.

I agree with you on the distance of noddy's kicks- that could definitely be improved but I think his decisions are good.

But i've only seen 1/2 the games this year so far. But I know he will kick better than Gower did in SOO 1. He was very average.

I think he may be sacrificing distance for precision from what I've seen so far because he has a sound technique and we've seen him kick 40/20's b4.

Let it rip a bit more BK.

The single reason that the Dogs won by so much tonight was that THE JOKE OF THE LEAGUE Anasta wasnt playing tonight so Sherwin could play his game unadulterated without the worst hack that the world has ever seen getting in his way
