KIDS: What's going on?

I've spent the last 2 days at my son's district athletics carnival. 26 schools in the Penrith area.

I've been keeping a close eye on the times being run in the sprint events from ages 10-12.

The times are substantially slower than when I competed in similar carnivals back in the late 70's.

When I say slower, I talking at least a second to a second and a half slower over the 100 and 200m. That equates to 5-10 metres.

The kids are generally bigger, with better shoes etc and much better nutritional information available. They should be going a second faster than the 70's.

What's going on?

Apparently the Australian record for 110m hurdles (I think) dates back to about the 70's.

I think I may still hold a record for U/12 Long Jump at about 4.6m from 1978. Kids must be spending too much time in front of X-Box or PS2. There's no other explanation.

I bet ya, the generation of kids 10-15 years from now will be superfit and kick ass at sports... Why? Because the current batch of young men and women has seen these fat arsed children and when we all have kids we wont allow this to happen. That is my opinion anyway.

When was the last time you saw a bunch of kidz playing footy in a park or any sport for that matter. They spend WAY to much time in front of some sort of screen and the people to blame. PARENTS!
