I've spent the last 2 days at my son's district athletics carnival. 26 schools in the Penrith area.
I've been keeping a close eye on the times being run in the sprint events from ages 10-12.
The times are substantially slower than when I competed in similar carnivals back in the late 70's.
When I say slower, I talking at least a second to a second and a half slower over the 100 and 200m. That equates to 5-10 metres.
The kids are generally bigger, with better shoes etc and much better nutritional information available. They should be going a second faster than the 70's.
