That's what holding the ball in two hands does too.

Only if the player has the ability to put the defence in two minds in the first place. Martin Lang could have had 4 arms and it wouldn't have mattered; he was going straight up the middle every time.
My point was that we just played close to as perfect a game as has been this year and they still have to focus on a negative!!

they have a point that it's risky and that at some point it WILL bite us (and then they can smugly say "I told you so").

thing is though, the greater the risk, the greater the reward. we will NOT win a grand final without taking risks and that is why BS has never coached a GF winning side.

if you want a minor premiership due to consistent play, then fine, don't take risks. If you want a shot at the major premiership, then you have to take risks. This is very similar to the Luke Burt short dropouts... one day it'll bite us, but if you don't take risks, you're a sitting duck.

you would think theopposition would be awake to those by now. you'd be filthy as an opposition coach when you see it occur.

I'm happy with the amount of press we got, don't want added presure from the media. We smashed the Tigers, we don't the press saying we are premiership contenders etc and putting added presure on us better them saying stuff all about the game and let the players prepare for next week.

Did you see how confident Burty was when he was running with the ball in one hand?

Just let it go. They're in great form and they can get away with it.

I don't believe that holding the ball one handed is a risk, it isn't any more of a risk than tucking it under the arm, which u hold one handed anyway. From some who does hold the ball on handed, it is more about comfort. It actually allows for you to run faster to, because the ball impedes with you less.

The biggest risk is passing the ball, knowing when to offload is more important than how you offload. If there are players in the vicinity, and a pass is reasonable, go ahead. Often though, especially when a player hasn't made good yardage or dominated in a tackle, they look for the offload. That is the wrong time to offload, you offload when you bending the defense and creating room. Mateo is very selective with his passing, the carry of the ball one handed accommodated for his ability to offload, but he is very selective. Cayless offloaded the ball 4 times with a two handed (actually rare these days) carry. Mateo offloaded twice, playing 25min more. Both players were selective in their offloads, but Cayless offload more, showing that the Mateo isn't over playing his hand.

There are definitely advantages to it, but how can you argue that it's not a risk? Surely it gives the opposition a much better chance to knock the ball out of your hand or force a knock on with a good hit. There is no way that you can have better control of the ball (in terms of holding onto it & not dropping it) by carrying it one hand rather than under your arm. Also, once the refs pigeon-hole a player as a "loose carry" all the 50/50 stripping calls will go against him.
