NRL: Kevin Kingston to captain Penrith Panthers in 2013
20 Nov 12 @ 05:00am by Chris Georgakopoulos
The Panthers with Penrith State MP Stuart Ayres on the steps of Parliament House.
PENRITH Panthers hooker Kevin Kingston has confirmed he will be the club's captain for 2013.
Kingston took over the role from Luke Lewis midway through last season but was not certain to remain in the position.
"I feel very privileged and honoured to captain this club," Kingston told the Press this week.
"I put my hand up to keep the role but it was up to (coach) Ivan (Cleary) and the club to decide what they wanted to do.
"I didn't think I would be told this early but I am rapt to get it."
Kingston got some handy tips on leadership when the Panthers visited NSW Parliament last week.
"We were invited to Parliament by the Penrith State Member Stuart Ayres," he said.
"We got to speak to a number of members of parliament about their own stories and spoke a lot about leadership. I think this exercise will help all of us with leadership.
"I have noticed already in training we are light years ahead of last year.
"Pre-season has been really good.
"We will be hitting the sand dunes soon, which will be difficult, but we are all really enjoying it."
