Kiwi's want shorter Test Series

NEW Zealand Cricket is negotiating with Australia to replace a Test with three one-day internationals during next year’s home series.

The teams are scheduled to play three Tests in Australia in November and a further three in New Zealand in February under the ICC’s Future Tours program.

NZC chief executive David White says a proposal to reduce the second series to two Tests is being discussed, making way for three ODIs leading into the World Twenty20 tournament in India.

White said adding a three-match Chappell-Hadlee ODI series would generate enormous interest in the wake of the World Cup final between the trans-Tasman rivals.

The Kiwis and the Aussies want to keep the World Cup final rivalry bubling along. He said Cricket Australia is “very receptive” to the idea.

New Zealand pace bowler Mitchell McClenaghan, a limited overs specialist at international level, was torn over his support for the change.

“Obviously from a one-day point of view, I’d love to be able to play a series against Aussie but I do think the Test guys deserve longer series against the big teams in the world, to really prove themselves,” he said.

Commentators have called for longer Test series for the fourth-ranked Black Caps in the wake of their compelling 1-1 draw in the two-Test series in England.

New Zealand have become accustomed to one or two-Test series over the last five years.

Fifteen of their last 21 series have comprised either one or two Tests. The others have comprised three.

They are unbeaten in their last seven Test series.

No.

In one breath he says New Zealand deserve proper test series and in the next advocates dropping a test for a mickey mouse ODI series.

Play both then mate. It requires extending the tour by one whole week. Problem solved!

I wish these f**kwits at CA and NZC would stop pandering to what they want to watch on TV in motherf**king Bangalore and look after their own backyard!!!

From my reading of this, this is NZC offering/wanting this.

So on one hand, they want 3 Test series, then they have one with Australia, and then want it to become a 2 test series and some ODIs.

Is this how I am reading it? Wrong or right?

You're wrong and right. CA gave them a 3 test tour but no odi's. So NZ wants to swap a test for 3 ODIs. If NZ could get CA to do 3 tests and 3 odi's they would gleefully accept.

ODIs puts bums on seats and has night tv ratings. NZC aint as rich as CA. Needs the dosh and cricket is not big in NZ when compared to Australia. A lot of "fans" couldn't tell you how many runs to avoid the follow on.

Test cricket is for the purists. NZ is all rugby union first and foremost.

It's actually not as bad as it sounds, I'm ok with 3 there and 2 here in a short space of time.
It's good to see the Chappell-Hadlee ODIs back.

Ideally though we'd go back to the old school days where you'd get a real 4 test series followed by a full tri-series in Aussie. Then have a proper return tour of 3-4 tests a year or two later.
