Knights At Full Strength

Tuesday, September 05, 2006 - Newcastle Knights

Newcastle Knights coach, Michael Hagan has named a 20 man squad to take on the Manly Sea Eagles at EnergyAustralia Stadium this Friday night, for the opening game of the NRL Finals Series.

Dynamic Fullback, Milton Thaiday has recovered from an ankle injury and will join the run on side after passing a fitness test this morning, while Kurt Gidley will start at Five-Eighth.

“There were some tough selection decisions to make but we have put together our strongest team so far this season,” said Knights Coach, Michael Hagan.

“It’s disappointing for Daniel Abraham and Todd Lowrie, they have every reason to feel unlucky but they’ll play an important role in the coming weeks.”

Also returning from injury, Kirk Reynoldson will join the Interchange line up with teenage playmaker, Jarrod Mullen and veteran front rowers, Luke Davico and Craig Smith.

Meanwhile, the Knights – Sea Eagles clash has captured the imagination of Rugby League supporters with tickets for Friday night’s semi final selling at a rapid pace.

Ticket sales opened to the general public today with more long queues of supporters camping at the ground overnight to guarantee their seats.

“We’re urging fans to get in as soon as possible to secure their tickets because the demand has been overwhelming,” said Newcastle Knights CEO, Ken Conway.

Gates open at 4.00pm on Friday afternoon with the Arrive Alive Cup between Endeavour High and Patrician Brothers High starting at 4.30pm.

After sealing the Minor Premiership last week, the Pepsi Knights Jersey Flegg squad continues its Premiership Campaign against the Canberra Raiders at 6.00pm.

The main game between the Knights and the Sea Eagles kicks off at 8.00pm.

Glad to see that we've got the full strenth side for the finals. I just hope that Mullen and Reyno play a bit of a role with Kidley and Tanner standing aside for the form players at some stage.

Hey all

Do you have an actual team line up, I want to post it on another forum, but I can't make what the team line up is from that press release, if you can help, I'd be greatly appreciated... :)

I assume that means they won't be picked for the final team...ridiculous that Abes won't be there and Tanner will be. Though if Hagan did drop Tanner the world would turn upside down :p

Great team anyway, I'm hoping whoever mentioned the scenario that "Kidley will be there for the first 20 mins and then Mullen will take over from there" will happen.

Nice way for Hages to avoid dropping anybody...I'll just name a 20 man squad for a game at home...WHAT A TOOL!

As I've said many times, he's one of the boys and is scared to make the tough calls as it will upset his mates [players], that's why he goes the 20 man teams.

That is the exact team I thought he would pic. How can tanner be in the 17. What a joke!

Kidley is starting 5/8. A move that I can live with.

Tanner at Lock. I would still be playing Reynoldson there. Abes for the spare Bench spot.

I really hope we don't see the "play Kidley at 5/8th for 60 Minutes then bring on Mullen" scenario. Still not comfortable with Thaiday at fullback either, lets hope he's gotten over the high ball jitters, and banished goal line shoulder charges because that's what loses you games. Tanner.....enough already said about him.
