I think the Buderus certainly takes alot of pressure of Joey and is just as important to the team as him. He was just great last night. I feel the whole team did something that was great last night. They need to slow down abit and try not to make mistakes, but other than that it was a pretty good game.

The former is the correct way to say his surname Keeney ie: under siege. The latter simply rolls off the tongue better when he gets in some space - "Go Seagey!!"

As I posted in another topic, these were my thoughts on last night:

Definately the most pleasing aspect of our win tonight was the defense. When Penrith had four cracks at our like and finally did go over, it was from a kick. I really hope they can keep it up all year. Defense like that wins you premierships.

The attack will become better as time progresses. I'm sure next week we'll come out a lot more confident and the players will have a bit of match fitness about them. It will be interesting playing the team coming off the bye in the first round.

I thought Kurt Gidley was fantastic. He really looks to want to make the 5/8 position his own. He just needs to work on the last tackle option when Joey has been tackled on the 4th.

A wrap of course to Danny, he was superb. He's just turned into one of those great hookers and his combination with Joey will be more lethal as the season progresses.

Searge was great! One mistake but you can forgive him for that. He seemed to handle the pressure extremely well. Definately has to be our fullback whilst Robbie is out. He looks like he's going to make a name of himself. Wouldn't it be great if he's in really good form and may make Hagan re-think putting O'Davis straight back into the role when he's back from injury.

Speaking of O'Davis, typical of him to get an injury on the first game back. I can see this as being his last year with us. From all reports I've heard he's been one of the best trainers. Well, didn't really show tonight did it?

Woolnough was excellent. Just to name another couple of names, I thought Lowrie off the bench was pretty good, Tahu in patches, Matt Gidley looked the goods. Of the others, Kennedy, Abraham...

Of course, I haven't mentioned Joey yet. He was showing glimpses of brilliance but it may take a while to get back to where he was before he got injured. It was good to see him not being the real dominant figure tonight. It was just a really good team performance.

Only lowlight was Russell Richardson. He butchered some really good opportunities. If he's not careful George Carmont could push for his position.

All in all, a good win!

Once again, ignorance of what others have already said, but I'll be brief:

Positives:

- Forward pack stood up to be counted
- Defence (first time this has been a positive) - they showed signs last season of this kind of standard, but dropped off the next week. Clearly this aspect has been worked on - it was very impressive tonight, even without seeing the stats.

- David Seage. Never seen the bloke play before, but now I know why everyone has been so keen about him. It makes sense now that the Knights signed him "unsighted" from Queensland.

- Quality players seem to have got through the game well, barring O'Davis. Cramping occured, but they seem to have survived, albeit with more concern about Tahu's calves/ankle.

Negatives:

- Kicking game was below standard, especially for Johns, Gidley and Buderus
- 5th tackle options generally were poor - hopeless even.
- Still far too much dropped ball. Richardson's mistakes stood out, but everyone was guilty of being a bit sloppy in attack.
- Further to above, the passing game was a bit wayward. Loose ball left, right and centre.
- O'Davis injured - only took 20 minutes. Out for six weeks.

David Seage a star in the making. he will replace Robie O.

i've gotta agree
he's younger and fresher whereas robbie o seems to be showing signs of ageing (well duh he is but he's showing signs more than say joey)

seage saved a certain luke rooney try and kept a cool head with luke lewis' kick
he was obviously trying to impress but had the confidence not to overdo it

So does everyone think we should start parso on the bench and woolnough starting?

with all the rising forwards we have at the moment, i wouldnt be surprised to see parso not even make the bench
he was very ordinary last night and his hit-ups are not as effective as they once used to be
hardly any impact off the bench last night

and i still cant believe that in his whatever many years with us he's only managed to get us 4 points
perry and woolnough have scored more tries in 2 years than parso has in his history

you cant expect him (parso) to play 100% first week

if we expect it from everyone else why not him??
sure he had an injury but so did BK and BK smashed em off the field last night
parso had little impact

ok for negatives from last night:

kicking game from joey was rather bad
his first 2 conversions were easy by his own standards but were completely off

we bombed a coupla tries (i vividly remember simmo knocking on 2 balls on the 5th tackle when he was about 3 metres away from the try line)

parso didnt make a mark, m gidley only made a little mark, richardson dropped far too many balls but did set up quinn's try

shame about robbie o but when i think about how much more we got from seage, it doesnt bother me too much

We know Seage can Put it on, but the question is can he put it in week in week out.

He wont beat Robbie for Fullback.

I thought Parsons had a decent game off the bench - I could hardly describe his performance as "ordinary". He had a few good runs, I didn't notice any sloppy tackling, and given he is coming back from injury I thought he did quite well. Clearly Woolnough has the starting spot at the moment - I'd like to see the forward pack remain largely the same.

As for not scoring enough tries - the props aren't there to score tries. The runs for the line on the burst from 5 metres out are usually handy, but you don't expect a front-rower to do much more than make tackles and make metres.

We don't expect Anthony Quinn to make 30 tackles in a game, and 20 hit-ups, so why is there surprise over Parsons not scoring tries - it isn't really his job. :?:

Sometimes I just sit back and imagine how devastating Parso could be if he ran as hard as Ben Kennedy. He'd be unstoppable!

wasnt he the 99 dally m prop of the year?

I'm of the understanding he won the "best prop" award two years in a row. I know when he was playing for Souths, he won an award from the Footy Show as their player of the year, or best new-talent or something similar.

I also thought the Dally Ms were just for the best player in the competition - they may not have had Dally M Prop of the Year, or indeed specific position-awards, as early as 1999. :?:
