Knowledge level of NRL / ESL players re International expansion

I sometimes wonder what the average NRL / ESL player knows about the game's new frontiers ?

Could they name 3 countries who have taken up the game in the last, say five years ? Can they name the coach of five teams outside the 'big three' ? Would they be able to explain - in reasonable detail - the history behind the forming of these new RL national bodies ?

I'd say the percentage who could do all 3 of the above would be below 50% ( being generous here !) .....though I'd say the Northern Hemisphere boys would be more knowledgable than their NRL counterparts.

So

(i) Should there be some form education scheme for players re the games growth ( and international history) ?

(ii) If so, what benefits would it bring ?

Firstly what benifit would it bring to the game for players to know answers to those questions.
Secondly id say 99% of people on this thread couldn't answer those questions.

The questions i put forward were off the top of my head ( and in a lunchtime typing frenzy during a quick lunch break !) so not really that relevant.

The point was more about ....does the average NRL / ESL player have any interest in the games international frontiers and its global future ?

If they don't then I think there should be some kind of information made available to them during the season - and possibly even some requests to become involved with a developing area.

What benefit would it bring ? Well i think an educated player is going to become more of an ambassador for the game and who knows possibly even encourage them to throw a few dollars towards either a particular country or via the various authorities ( RLIF; APRL; RLEF) or even Rugby League Development Fund.

Canada
Chile
Hong Kong (not a country I know)

Nope

Immigration to the big 3 (Australia mostly) and exporting it back to their homelands?

How did i do :lol::lol::lol::lol:

 hadn't heard that last one! Seriously, who does that gem belong to? Maybe someone like Bryce Gibbs?

I think it's an excellent thread it's a question I've often wondered myself.

What would be the benefit of them being aware of it some of you ask? A simple example: When they go on their end of season holidays to Europe or wherever, something as simple as taking just an hour or two to pop into a local training gives a massive boost to those in that country. Look at SBW's visit to Lebanon a few months ago for example.

Really????

Was Inglis' excuse for not going to Brisbane to sign his contract and staying in Sydney and signing with Souths when he left Melbourne.

Just looked it up and found the article! Surely was a p***take. He's been flying across the country on a weekly basis for a decade, surely he would have flown in the rain at some point.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, I think I read a few months ago, when Serbia were trying to woo Trbojevic, that he said he didn't realise they played and wouldn't even know what colours they wore, something to that effect. That probably sums up the extent of international RL knowledge the average NRL player has.

Most don't know the rules... Or any of the history... Of the game they play.
No chance they can answer your questions.
