Ok you Poms and those closer to SL then the rest of us, where is he headed?

He said he would decide this week. It will probably be one of Sale, Bath or St Helens.

Any inside info peeps?

Nothing confirmed yet.

Seemed to get injured a lot but when he is actually on the pitch he is an outstanding talent.

Will be interesting to se where he plays. I'd stick inside centre myself, but i can see full back as more likely.

Can't blame him if he goes, just watching Chris Ashton go from run of the mill league full back to sporting superstar would turn any head.

He put in probably the worst performance of the weekend, with the possible exception of Scott Dureau, so he might as well go if his head isn't in it.

Ashton and Robinson in sixteen years isn't a great strike rate from an England RU perspective considering all the money they have thrown at ex league players. There's no guarantee Eastmond will join them either. A RL player with potential. Not the superstar in the here and now that we are being told he is/was.

Disappointing because at 21 his best years will be spent in Union.
One less quality player for England to choose from.

We can write blokes off as nuffies after they decide to leave but the truth is he is England RL's best halfback and without him they are left without any decent halves of any note. But the worst thing is if he does succeed in union it will just about ensure that any good back that England RL produces will follow suit. The game over there needs to act, but it won't.

Agree ECT, nothing will be done and Saints will probably just replace him with an Australian who can't get a start in the NRL.
This is a serious loss to RL and the weaker England get at Int' RL the faster it will slide into oblivion.
I would actualy enforce a three year moratorium on SL clubs signing overseas which would force the clubs into concentrating on developing British players.
As it stands the England coach would currently have about four players to choose from at scrumhalf, it's a disgrace that this has been allowed to happen.
Fans are as much to blame as the clubs as they crave any overseas signings no matter who they are, too see Hull fans celebrating the two year deal for Sam Obst says it all IMO, he would struggle to get a start in the qld cup or nsw cup.

He will probably be replaced with either Jonny Lomax, Gary Wheeler or Lee Gaskell if he goes. Not some reserve grade nuffie.

IMHO Eastmond is just a slightly better version of Rob Burrow and I don't rate him either (and you all know I'm a Leeds fan). Brough probably has the best skill set of any current British 7 at the mo. As an outsider I'd say Danny McGuire is also up there with the best 7s. He pretty much carried Leeds last year and played half the year at 7. By far now the best play maker at the Rhinos. I have said for years that he looks more like a natural scrum half and in something like 30 games there for Leeds we have lost 3 games. Not a bad strike rate.

I hope so, Lomax is the obvious choice as he is the best equipped for playing at 7, Gaskell is too tall and is better suited to five eighth or fullback.

None of them are really natural halves though are they? I'd say it's an odds on bet that Saints will be after someone else. That may or may not be an import but history suggests they'll try the NRL. And even if they do promote a local it doesn't make up for the loss of the most talented half England has produced in probably a decade or more.

Lomax has always played in the halves, it's only recently he has been used as a utility back and Gaskell too but he is about 6"4 now (possibly taller) and is too gangly.

Wheeler is more of a centre these days imo.

So definitely Lomax the best option for me.

I don't see the relevance of this injury criticism either. There are plenty of blokes who struggle with injuries early in their career but still become top players. Look no further than the Golden Boot winner. Eastmond has a decade or more ahead of him.

Real real shame to see this kid go. From an Australian perspective I enjoyed watching him in the Tri-Nations a couple of years back and was looking forward to seeing him develop over time. Certainly had the potential.

Really starting to fear for the future of English RL.

Let's not get suicidal over this.

I started watching RL in 1992 and I can say without any fear of contradiction that we are now producing more players, and of a far higher standard, than at any time since then. Eastmond will be a loss if he goes, no doubt about that, but mainly because it reinforces the idea that we only exist to create players who want to move on to play rahrah.

But at youth level we are starting to see the development work (that has only been taking place for about five years in all honesty) across the country starting to have an impact. Quins are producing some talented kids (10 of the 40 invited to the U-14's National Camp two years ago where Londoners), Wigan have just signed a centre from Hemel Stags, St Helens a lad from Northampton, Hull a scrum half from Scotland, and the Crusaders are bringing through some talented kids as well. These are kids in areas where union is easily accessible and where tgg is a newcomer, but they've chosen to attempt to forge careers in RL as a first choice option!

There are clearly issues in the game; some of the clubs still take the easy option of bringing in imports. Despite the RFL's efforts to impose new rules some clubs seem intent on finding loop holes and stacking their teams. This is a waste of talent and money down the drain.

The biggest problem for me though is the lack of direction and dedication to the international game. The RFL needs to make a real committment to this. They play games in small northern stadia because they think they can fill them without too miuch costly marketing, but this is a false economy. Too often these games simply come across as small affairs when they should be built up as events, something casual RL and general sports fans want to attend. The fact that I haven't seen England/GB play in my home city (the bloody capital!) since 2005 is insane. And the last game before that was in 2000. We need to make international matches a big event.

We may not be able to match rahrah in some areas because they have so many in-built advantages, but that doesn't mean we can't improve our own situation.
