Lakers get Gasol

The Los Angeles Lakers bolstered their banged-up frontline Friday with a key acquisition -- 7-footer Pau Gasol of the Memphis Grizzlies. The Lakers gave up Kwame Brown, rookie Javaris Crittenton and two first-round draft picks for Gasol. The Spaniard is certain to help a Lakers team reeling from recent injuries to inside players, including blossoming center Andrew Bynum.

Gasol, averaging 18.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.44 blocked shots in 39 games this season, can fill in at center until Bynum returns in mid-March and then move to power forward.

The Grizzlies will get the Lakers' first-round draft choices in 2008 and 2010; guard Aaron McKie, signed earlier Friday for salary cap purposes; cash considerations, and the rights to Gasol's brother Marc, a 2007 second-round pick of Los Angeles.
The Lakers also receive the Grizzlies' second-round pick in 2010.

Hahaha! Super trade for the Lakers! Last month I told my friend in Utah that the Lakers would win the West. Now I feel good about that pick.

Fisher - Kobe - Odom - Gasol - Bynum. THAT'S impressive!

losing Javaris Crittenton is a bit of a blow, but the way farmar's being going, not too big of a loss. Overall great trade for the lakers, although i don't understand why Memphis would want Crittenton, considering they already drafted conley jr for pg.

They need cap space, and they're looking to sell the team apparently.

As a Laker fan, all I can say is, "can't wait for Bynum to get back"

If only Mitch could shift Luke Walton and Odom for Artest.

dunno if we would need Artest, you wouldn't want to deplete the depth that we have on the bench atm, bench's been one of the key reasons for the lakers good form.

Sacto would never help us anyway....

But could you just imagine a little more agro and D that Artest would bring? He and Kobe are good friends and he'll be winning, so that'll shut him up and he'd make up for the perceived softness of Pau and at the same time toughen Drew up.

Keep in mind the gem of a trade it was to nab Ariza as his backup too, Luke is expendable and a straight up trade of Odom for Artest would be worth it. I'm still not sold with Odom at SF at his age. He's an awesome guy and gone through some seriously tough sh*t, and I'd love for him to win it all with us, but Artest would just be a case of having the team show up and we'd win.

I expect Odom to flourish with the addition of Pau on the team. He's (Odom) probably the best 3rd/4th option in the league. Way too laid back to be the 2nd option if we want to challenge for a championship...
