But an NRL player who witnessed the incident was highly critical of the tactics used by police.

"The incident between Latrell and Jack was nothing - they were just mates who had a bit to drink mucking around," the player, who declined to be named, told Wide World of Sports.

"But then cops came from everywhere - about four of them jumped on Latrell and forced him to the ground and twisted his arms behind his back.

"He wasn't resisting and was screaming at them to stop hurting him.

"It was very distressing to watch... it was a massive over-reaction."

Should be bodycam + cctv footage of the event. Will be a great look for the AFP if this unnamed player is telling the truth.

"“Two men-children – a 30-year-old from Bywong, NSW and a 25-year-old manchild from Chifley, NSW – were arrested at the scene."

Edited the police statement for accuracy,

Not much in it.

Latrell probably lucky they didn't mistake him for a Raider and give him the full Starling/Scott resisting arrest with your face treatment.

sounds like Latrell might be inline for the raiders famous AFP TPA arrangement if the unnamed player is to be believed :D

honestly sounds like a complete nothing burger… couple of drunk mates have getting a bit silly. Doubt anything serious will come of it

Fair point. I mean there hasn't been any recent examples of the police overstepping against the public let alone famous footballers right?

imagine giving cops the BOTD in 2023

Been a long time since the police force were anything more the bullies and thugs in uniforms

I have seen best mates enjoy abit of a spar out on the piss so the reasoning could be legit but abit silly when your 2 well known NRL stars.

I work with a bloke that use to have a full on spar with his best mate every time they drunk and they use to find it fun, some people are just strange lol.
