Laurie Daley now damaged goods for a NRL coaching career?

I'm not really sure what Origin tells you about a coach anyway. The worst period NSW probably had was under Craig Bellamy and then you've got Meninga as the most successful Origin coach ever. Then there's guys like Raudonikis, Pearce and Vautin jagging a series.

Origin coaches are just picked because of who they are then their coaching ability. Kevin Walters would be useless at coaching at NRL level, Meninga had an unsuccessful record, Daley wouldn't do much either. Artie's first grade coaching record is below 50% and Wayne Pearce never made a finals game in 6 years of coaching Balmain and Wests Tigers.

I think Kevin Walters deserves credit though for turning things around for Queensland after Game 1. Also Walters has worked his apprentice as an assistant coach with Criag Bellamy at Melbourne. He has been interviewed for the Tigers coaching gig, and he has been rumored considered successor for Bennett at the Broncos. To suggest Walters has no interest from NRL clubs and no chance of having success is a little premature in my opinion.

I'd take the inbreed Walters any day of any week of any lifetime over the jowled gimp we have masquerading as a coach at our joint.

In fact surely jowls can get a gig as a blues coach?

Walters? Bahahahah! Everyone knows Smith and Cronk have co coached Qld for the last 10 years.

Mal and Kevvie were just puppets.

Old Ricky Stuart said he'd be happy to win 1 game in a 3 game series and still got 2 more NRL jobs lol

Walters had the series handed to him the second Daley picked Pearce and made it his team.

He made pretty good decisions in Game 2 and 3 as far as selections go. But all he had to do was pick 17 players and let nature sort itself out.

Haha NSW should never have lost Game 2 tbh, could be a completely different story.

The only series he won was with Hodkinson / Reynolds as the halves, the following year he drops Reynolds and brings Pearce back; Laurie is a moron.

That one year they won was off the back of QLDs stars all carrying injuries and out of form, plus Cronk broke his arm first game.

But they still had Scott, Thurston, Slater, Inglis, GI etc and DCE was the next hero of origin. Qld had no excuses whatsoever

Was there ever a time when Daley was not damaged goods?

Seems a nice bloke but doesn't come across as the sharpest tool in the shed.

I'm open to give Daley another year - BUT first person I would be sacking from the coaching staff is Roach - he is not a good influence or role model for the players to be around - He has to go immediately - I then would be bringing the Sharks Andrew Gray into the coachng staff squad and also look at someone like Toovey or Johns as a runner in a Langer type model - BUT ROACH MUST GO !

Oh and if Fittler goes anywhere near the top squad I'm changing allegiances to Qld

I agree, except the part about Freddie. He should be there.

Daley said at the press conference last night 'I know what I'm going to do'. Its likely he was going to walk no matter what the outcome of this series. But I really doubt they would give him another go even if he was interested in staying on.

Geoff Toovey is in England, and Ivan Cleary is at the Tigers either of those two would have been perfect. NSW have the missed the boat

Fittler's coaching record at the Roosters was mixed, but then again so was Meninga record when coaching the Raiders. I think a lot of criticism that is leveled at Fittler is driven by his personality, he still makes some astute analysis on football. Does not mean he's a great coach though, but he shouldn't be discounted completely whether you like him or not as a commentator.

Yeah @davi

Anyone can coach the Queensland team and win with it. I'm sure even Langmack would.

Still doesn't discount the other things Walters has on his resume. The changes he made for Game 2 were important, and you largely forget also that Queensland were given no chance to win after game 1. I love people that re-write history suggesting 'Oh I knew Queensland was going to win the series after game 1" when it wasn't the case.
