The following is an email I received from the Rugby League Supporters Association.

League wants in.

With one year to go to the start of the 2002 Commonwealth games in Manchester, Rugby League has sent out a message of Insistance on being involved.
Paul Cunliffe spokesman of the Rugby League Supporters Association commented:-
âWe are one of Englands biggest club sports and have one of the biggest and a constantly expanding amatuer setup in the British Isles, yet Rugby Union gets the chance whilst Rugby League is excludedâ
âCouple this with the fact that the games are being held within the Rugby League heartland in Manchester, we have a valid reason to feel aggrieved.â
This very problem also highlights our own inefficiency to promote our own game properly:-
âAgain we see a great sporting occasion coming to our country and it seems we still canât jump at the chance and get our game at the heart of it. The Supporters find themselves standing up for their game whilst those in charge sit back and struggle to comment on anything further than their own clubs next game.â
âWe insist that the Club chairman stand down from running our game and allow the creation of an independent governing body and install a forward looking Chief Executive who with the Supporters voice at its heart can drive our game forward into what should be a bright future for Rugby League.â
