Rugby League faces a loss of up to $40m as a result of propsed changes to NSW gaming legislation.
The NRL and ARL were warned yesterday changes to trading hours in particular would have severe ramifications for the funding of the game.
Forty-five delegates representing 25 NSW leagues clubs met yesterday to discuss the proposed changes.
South Sydney Juniors told the meeting the loss of 24 hour trading would affect its ability to continue to fund a $2m junior program and a $1.5m grant for the return of South Sydney Football Club to the NRL.
"The leagues clubs estimated they would lose some $40m in revenue and that would be felt directly by rugby league," NRL chief executive David Moffett said yesterday.
"From what we've heard this will not only affect NRL clubs significantly but the very grass roots of the game."
I just read this in the local paper in Townsville.
