SOUTHERN Hemisphere fans may not have teams to cheer for but there is a Tri-Nations on later this year – and we have a leaked copy of the draw.
Of course, NRL clubs were determined that their players get a light post-season ahead of next year’s World Cup. Far & Wide would like to point out that Australia and New Zealand are playing each other at Dairy Farmers Stadium on October 13 and if they each played England instead, there would be absolutely no more “wear and tear” on stars.
But anyway … the draw has not been announced yet for the Tri-Nations involving England, Wales and France but here’s what we’ve heard:
October 20: FRANCE v WALES at French venue TBA
October 27: WALES v ENGLAND at Racecourse Ground, Wrexham
November 3: ENGLAND v FRANCE at English venue TBA
November 10: FINAL at TBA
.
COLLEAGUE The Mole brought you the news earlier this year that the a new Moroccan club in Rabbat was going to be called the Rabbat-ohs.
But no-one flies the Bunnies flag higher in the northern hemisiphere than Northern Ireland’s Ballynahinch Rabbitohs, who have won that competition four years in a row now! As far as we can tell, it’s a first-past-the-the-post league and they finished top. Well done, Ballynahinch!
.
WE aim to be your one-stop column for World Cup news here and there was some venue news during the week.
Whitehaven lost its right to host matches when it became apparent the new stadium there would not be finished in time. But the games, involving Scotland, Italy and Tonga, will stay in Cumbria after a deal was struck with Derwent Park in Workington.
Derwent Park has a long a proud history of hosting touring teams of the years and the locals are grateful they will get their slice of World Cup action next year. Alerdale Borough Council and Energy Coast are putting Stg450,000 into the venue to make sure the games are played there. Scotland’s training base will also be nearby.

Burgess Brothers, Jack Reed, Chris Heighington and Garath Widdop. Wonder if they'll be available for England
