Hi Forum,

Does anybody here surf? Can you give me some tips on where and what to buy?

:)

First things first, you need to figure out if you are natural or goofy footed.

Stand with your feet parallel to your shoulders and have someone push you in the back; whichever foot you put forward to avoid falling is your dominant stance.

After that, sign up in a surf school and enjoy looking at pussy.

btw Wotbeh goofy is right foot forward regular left foot.

not a surfer though, use to skate a fair bit though.

Goofy FTW.

depends where you live, most surfing schools use the foam boards which are pretty easy to ride,

long boards are good for learning then buy a shorter board once you learn, takes probably about 1 season to get the hang of it depending on how often you go

whether you are goofy or natural means jack shit

best sport to get into, keeps you pretty fit

I'm far from an expert, but I took lessons back in 2010 with a group in Manly and found it was quite a good introduction. By day's end, I was at least able to stand and ride a wave. I was nowhere near a pro, but it gave me a decent foundation and was a fun way to learn.

Hi

I did research today and I found the rounder starter boards with no sharp bits are the best. Is that correct? How much would all the gear cost me, grip, rope and board?

:)

yeh, thats right

cheap board and legrope would only be a few hundred bucks, better off to learn on a long board

maybe try and borrow one or hire a few first to see what you like

where are you learning ?

Wanda down to the northern end of Cronulla would be OK to learn, just stay in the small stuff and away from Cronulla point till you can master it

good luck and dont give up, you'll get heaps out of it if you mater it, I've surfed all over Australia and a few spots OS, its the best sport

your mates should be encouraging you, they had to learn at some stage

Don't teach yourself. Sign up for a surf school. An ex of mine went to one at one of the Cronulla beaches back in 2005 and they taught her really well.
