Leeds are the only team this year not going on warm weather training. Instead opting for Mountain Biking and orienteering in Cumbria where they will be subjected to freezing temperatures with weight training at 8 in the morning outside.

Surley they won't be able to get through as much as everyone else and will be left far behind in terms of skill.

Discuss.

Apt. Leeds do have a tradition of freezing when it matters.

Anyway, I can't see any definite connection between warm weather training and skill levels. The coach knowing what he wants to do being able to do it is more important than where is it's done.

A wind-swept freezing morning in Cumbria will be a good preparation for Odsal in July.

Actually, this is where the British spin me out completely. There are three steadfast principles in sports science to enhance performance: variety, reversibility and SPECIFICITY.

An extremely large majority of games played in the ESL are cold weather games...hence all training should occur in cold weather. Training in warmth does not give anything that training in the cold doesn't and as such means that Leeds are the only intelligent ones left in England.

The fact that the British side opted to have warm weather training in Spain before the tri-nations had me in stitches.

You're obviously unfamiliar with British conditions at this time of year. Frost can make out door training impossible, and teams lose vaulauble time due to training pitches being dangerous. Therefore warm weather training allows teams to have un-interrupted out-door training time.

Leeds have access to under-soil heating so this isn't an issue for them.
