Less Games A Season...

Just interested to see where others sit on this argument... Story

My opinion...

With Webcke echoing Johns' sentiments about the length of the season it seems to me that a few players need to have a good think before opening their mouths. When rep honours are becoming a problem in your life then do what Fittler did, put your hand up & say you've had enough. To come out whinging about the length of a season but happily take the proceedes it gives you is pathetic. I notice these calls werent being made at the begining of their rep careers but now that the body hastaken a bruising & thenext crop of players is maturing to the point of warranting selection it seems the old boys want some concessions. Well sorry lads but unless you take a pay cut then for mine your just running scared.
As for it wearing out the games "crowd pullers", I cant accept that at all. Given theres not a thousand A. Johns' or S. Webcke's running around but that doesnt mean that without them NSW, QLD & AUS teams would collapse. Theres currently a huge amount of talent floating around from team to team, all different yet able to bring something significant to any side they were to play in. Players like Sherwin, Barrett, Hindmarsh all have time on their side & skill to burn.

It seems thecyclic cleaning is about to begin. The names we have all come to know as the go-to guys are now the getting-on guys & it seems they see the inevitable on the horizon. To guys like Webcke & Johns I say go when you cant affect a game, dont affect a game because you can no longer go.

I agree mate. On the last big Kangaroo tour, back in 1994, that would have been one of the longest seasons ever with more club matches than tests on the Kangaroo tour and there was also a pre-season comp along with the Origin series. Back then, all players were itching to play as much footy as they could and you never heard any whinging from the high profile players.

As for Webcke, this is the same bloke who sat out the last Kangaroo tour because he was too scared to travel to England and he was the only one who did not go. I think his mum said he might get hurt.:(
