Less ref abuse?

Is there less abusive language/behaviour towards the refs this year? I've only seen the Roosters V Cowboys game so far, but player behaviour is a lot better. Even JT is treating the refs with some respect.

Last year it seemed every second call one of the captains would be yelling at the ref that it was the wrong call, and players who make errors in the tackle/play-the-ball would start abusing the ref who saw the error.

Anyone else spotting this? or am I mistaken?

5 games in seems a little early to make this call.

There was a Rooster play unhappy that the ref wouldn't let them play on when a Cowboy was on the ground.

Already it seems the refs are going to continue their pathetic search for stoppages, maybe a new macho colour sent the wrong message, they should be wearing a burka . . . we're not as interested in them as they think we are

Did anyone notice that out of nowhere during the Panthers vs Bulldogs game that the ref's mic went live to the stands when they were speaking to the players about their fight? I'd actually prefer the refs take the NFL approach and announce all penalties to the crowd i.e. who was pinged by number and what the penalty was for.

I would also prefer as a rule they NEVER speak to players on the field unless they are giving them an official warning, with the next stoppage meaning someone is being binned. Refs having a chat with players in the middle is completely pointless and just leads to idiotic buddy buddy bullshit between refs and players.

Yeah not sure why the captain needs the ref to explain every decision and penalty to them...here's a hint, the different hand signals mean something..if its a penalty, then your guys should probably stop doing that thing

It is in the rule book that a player can approach the referee to ask what a particular penalty was for. At NRL level under NRL guidelines, only the Captain may now do so. Remember, when the whistle is blown and a penalty given, the players are usually not looking at the referee, they are usually still looking in the direction of the ball so they rarely see the hand signals - assuming the referee gives one.

No wonder referees get abused, allowing the tackled player to step off the mark and then the double jeopardy of penalising the marker for interference is pathetically stupid

Posted before your edit...i guess that could be true, but the referees tend to make it fairly obvious from what I've seen
