The last 2006 European Nines Series tournament was held in French town of Lezignan this weekend. Spain (team consisted of professional players with Spanish roots) won Serbia in final 16-6. This is great success for Serbia, because our team went to France with just 10 players. Zoran Pesic, Serbian player, voted the Player of the Tournament. He won that title in 2005, too, when Serbia was sixth.

Is Joran Pesic a player raised in Serba, or an Aussie/Brit with Serbian roots ?

Are any teams in NL1/2 or Elite1 looing at signing him ?

Spain Origin lifts the “Trophée des Vendanges”.
For the third time, on the 23rd and 24 of September, Rugby League teams from all over France and Europe gathered in the small town of Lezignan situated in the heartland of French RL. They could feel the History in the legendary “Stade du Moulin”, home of the oldest RL Club in France: 103 years!

This year’s edition of the tournament had a particular international taste, with foreign teams coming from 7 different nations: Spain Origin, Morocco, Cambridge University, Serbia, Euro Celts (Scotland+Ireland) and Carlow (Ireland).

In the main competition the “Trophée des Vendanges”, Spain Origin created an upset in the semis, exiting 2 times winner and host Lezignan, and eventually lifted the trophy, while the Serbians confirmed their progress after a fantastic tournament. They reached the final and deservedly own their runner up spot. They defeated Cambridge University in the quarterfinals and French Elite Club Carpentras in the semis.

In the “Coupe du Vin” competition, the Euro Celts beat the Gypsies Selection in a heavily contested final. They had previously defeated Ornaisons, a side including Catalans Dragons’ Freddie Zitter and Remi Casty, the latter originating form this small village in the Aude region.

Last year’s runner-up “Pole Espoir” (excellence Academy situated in Carcassonne) lifted the “Trophée de la Ville” while in the women’s competition, Toulouse Ovalie won the tournament defeating XIII Catalans and XIII Provencal.

“This year’s tournament has been a real success” said delighted organiser Patrick Pedrazzani “ We hope this event will become more international in the years to come”.
