Line speed

Ricky is a donk! For the last 18 weeks I have watched the opposition just roll forward very easily because of our lack of line speed. Does he seriously not notice it and try and rectify it? It's one of the main reasons we are forever coming off our own line.... Add to that the poor defense and million trys that are being scored because of our shit wingers etc etc and it's no wonder we can't compete.
I just can't understand how he can't get us to work on the very basics to start with.

I do agree however I would like to add that its Parramatta's marker defence that is awful compared to other teams. How many times tonight did a Penrith marker make a one on one tackle and stop Parramattas momentul. Now compare that with how many times the Parra markers did likewise?
Joseph Paulo absolutely goes to sleep at marker.
Often the Parra markers go the same way.
Keating? OMG.
Harrison was the only Parra player I saw make consecutive tackles.
Line speed and a staggered line are definate problems but marker defence is disgraceful. They simply never move forward. Teir first reaction is to step back. Grrrrrr.
And lets not talk about that Ref Perenara. For a guy that played the game at an NRL level this guy simply has no feel for the game whatsoever.
The penalty on Kelly (the other ref I think) could easilly have cost Parra a win. Disgraceful decision.

Two terrible defensive lapses cost us tonight. Ok, give Tonga the benefit of the doubt but he was stood up badly, but no excuse for that Kingston try, that was just embarrassing.

While I'm not a Ricky fan.....he's not an idiot. If you don't win the wrestle, you don't have line speed. They both play off each other obviously, but I'd find it difficult to believe that training sessions run along the lines of 'hey fellas, just take it easy in defence and mosey on up towards the attackers at your leisure'.

Wasnt it Rickys Roosters who revolutionised the game with their line speed?
I am sure he knows what he is doing.

These.

Just because you don't see something happening on the field, doesn't mean the coach isn't aware of it, or that he isn't trying to fix it.

As much as you hate a coach, these guys are professionals. They know what they're doing, and if you nuffy-in-the-stands notice it you can be sure the coach is well aware of the problem.

I don't know what any coach can do with these players! I am so sick of seeing us struggle to make 30m per set, yet the opposition waltzes through 50m with ease. As someone said our marker defence is atrocious.

Well most coaches are professionals.... Some were appointed by their mates on the back of a professional power point presentation to what was effectively a work experience experiment for their career development (that sadly failed).

But apart from that example, most coaches are professional and know what they're doing more so than the nuffy watching in the stands.

No, they're all professionals. Most of them even played the game at the highest level, and learnt from the best coaches in the game.

Sticky has won eight of his past 42 games as coach, but that doesn't mean he's got no idea.

It's a shit roster, I'm surprised that kept the score respectable this time considering the players we were missing

I thought our wrestle wasn't too bad yesterday. Just like all the games where we've competed this year.

I agree. I was a little disappointed with how quickly our 8, 10, 13 got back to help drive the ball forward after Penrith kicks in the 2nd half. Perhaps it was just quality of the kicks, or maybe I was imagining it, but very often it seemed that a fwd didn't touch the ball till the 4th/5th hit up.

This is true but you did hint at something that is important to coach - the wrestle! I haven't see a consistent effort from us in the wrestle and the ruck. In fact, we are so shit you wonder how much time Sticky spends on this.

True, and at least part of our problem in attack is not just the obvious part of the 'wrestle'. Some of our better forwards make a good run, get slowed up completely but continue fighting for an extra half yard when playing the ball is what is needed. While they get that half yard the defence is setting itself. It's particularly annoying in the opposition 20.
