Line Trimmers

I'm looking to buy a new line trimmer...whipper snipper whatever you want to call them. My last one was a Ryobi and I spent more time swearing at it and re-threading the line than actually chopping the crap out of grass. Does anyone have a particular brand that they like or know of?

I like the idea of a 4-stroke Honda but they are a bit exxy.

i recently bought a lithium battery one. cant actually remember the name but it was $200 from bunnings. wont be as powerful as a petrol one and doesnt have the ability to turn sideways and use the "wheel" like other ones have but it does what i need it for.

maybe look for a brand which sells "clip in spools" of line, i think the idea is you dont have to re-thread cos it's all in a self contained unit. for some reason i think ryobi does these

Yeah, I want a petrol one because I want to feel like a big man as I destroy anything growing. I'm like the US Armed Forces when I use a whipper snipper. I can't determine friend or foe and there are generally some unfortunate friendly casualties.

I've seen the Ryobi units with the contained spool. They look good but I have heard bad things about the engines etc.

Do yourself a favor and get a Shindaiwa T230 or T260 it will last you the rest of your life.

Depends on how much you use them. When I bought my mowing franchise the first brushcutter I had was Sthil it lasted about 8 months. Since then I've been using Shindaiwa. One of them is about 7 years old and still going strong. Remember what the domestic user does with his machine in a year I do the same in 3 or 4 days.

I've got a Murray. He generally calls every 2 or 3 weeks & if I give the ok he is here within 24 hours. Works everytime!

A mate bought the straight shaft unit (with blade as well as line) from Trade Tools for under $200 and reckons it is great.
Ryobi/Homelite are rubbish.

Yeah, I've heard a straight shaft is the go. I will look today. I think I made my decision when I tossed my last one across the backyard. Surprisingly aerodynamic.

I bought a Victa one. 2 stroke with a unique line feeding system. It worked well. Then we had to Bunnings to buy more plants as I pretty much decimated the backyard.
