Tonga have beaten the USA 28-20

No change in the rankings here. A good close game, as the rankings indicate it should be, with 9th against 13th.

16th placed russia defeats 18th placed Germany in a close game. No change in teh rankings, but i think this game is evidence that the rankings are close to right for these two teams. I do think that the russian performance was a little dissappointing compared to what they used to be although hopefully Germany have improved quite a bit.

And, Malta (22) Defeats Denmark (19) - A bit of an upset on the rankings, but i expect that Malta have a bit of improvement left in them due to heritage players.

Any other games i missed?

The biggest movers since the last ranking is Tonga, who moved from 9th to 7th with their huge win over Samoa. Russia proved the strength of this rankings system with a very tight win over Serbia away from home which left the rankings unchanged.

I dont think i missed any rankings changing results, but i am happy to be educated by others. The next possible controversial game in this system is the USA vs Samoa game. Is the general consensus that this should be considered a true international or not? Neither side are at full strength, but it seems to be a true domestic based Tonga and only the lower ranked side, USA are as far from full strength. My leaning is towards counting this as a ranking game, even if it is possible that this will give the USA a slight skew in the rankings if they win. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I'd include it - even though its clearly not the 'full' sides.

BTW did you include the Germany-Netherlands fixture?

No, i definitely missed that one. What was the score? I am presuming that
Germany beat Netherlands, meaning that i will now put Netherlands up as the last placed team.

Ukraine beat Norway last weekend.

Also Belgium beat Netherlands two weeks ago, so they need to be added to the rankings.

It'll even itself out - assuming that the clubs we expect to make the Semi Finals do - and if they don't it'll still be right!

BTW Sweden beat Norway 40-22 on 20/7/13 I think that's the only recent result which changes your rankings

[/QUOTE]

i have added the wins of Italy and USA. I know they were not strictly full internationionals, but not all results have been in these rankings, and when half strength USA and Tonga (or was it samoa) sides met earlier, the vote was to leave them in. I also added the swedish result that was missed on the way through. Vanuatu's win has been added, but i need to look up who that was agaisnt as from memory there are two more wins at the bottom end to be considered.

The Italian and USA wins have really shaken things up on the rankings side, and you would expect them to change by the end of the tournament, but in reality, how long is it (if ever) since anyone outside the top 3 has had as good a win as what they had (full international or not).
