Found this at the bottom of an article in the Tele that has Fitzy calling for the 2005 tri nations to be scrapped.

FORMER Australian and Parramatta five-eighth Brett Kenny will coach Penrith's Jersey Flegg side next season.

yeah! I heard that yesterday, I guess he's been promoted from SG Ball.

does that mean he can quit his labouring job and work fulltime on Johnny Lang's staff??

Bit more news from yesterday too,

" * The Warriors will not allow halfback Thomas Leuluai a release from his contract to take up an offer from Parramatta.

The club had agreed Leuluai could look elsewhere but put a proviso on him that he not go to another NRL club, spokesman Richard Becht said.

The Eels have already signed halfback Marcus Perenara, who was on a three-year deal at the Warriors.

Leuluai wants more game-time. He will now look to spend one year in England as his Warriors contract expires before trying to force his way back into the NRL.

But the Super League clubs are restricted to just two import players from next season. "

and today,

"With Ruben Wiki out with a broken jaw, the logical choice as captain is 2001 leader Nathan Cayless. At 26, Cayless promises to be around for some time.

He is playing off the bench solely because of his lack of game-time through the season after recovery from a broken arm. But he has been one of the Kiwis' best in all games.

Cayless offers longevity over Wiki, who is 31. He also offers the Australian mindset, having grown up in their system. Like Wiki, he will lead by example in taking the ball up. But he offers more in organising defences when the Kiwis do not have the ball and has a longer captaincy history."

"The 2004 Kiwis have suffered for vision and game-steering because they have played without a specialist six and with Thomas Leuluai fresh out of Bartercard Cup at half, due to injury. The 2005 Kiwis will hopefully be much better armed to play a smart attacking game, using the full variety of kicking skills, with as many as seven players competing in the halves: Leuluai, Jerome Ropati, Lance Hohaia, Benji Marshall, Marcus Perenara with brother Henry a possible six and Stacey Jones if he reconsiders his international future. "

Caylo is a great leader and why Wiki is there is beyond me as captain that is.

I could understand Wiki as captain, but with Caylo leading the kiwis out a couple of years ago, I would have thought he was the incumbent as far as I am concerned.

played indoor cricket with Woodsy a couple of times. Handy with the bat but not much of a bowler.

Woods takes up Tigers post Nov 15 2004

Relegated Castleford have appointed little-known Australian David Woods as their new coach, initially on a one-year deal.

The 39-year-old, who has coached junior teams at the Penrith Panthers for the last four years, succeeds New Zealander Gary Mercer, who was not retained after the Tigers finished bottom of Tetley's Super League and has since joined Oldham.

Castleford will be hoping Woods can emulate his fellow countryman Stuart Raper, who transformed the club from relegation candidates to play-off regulars after being plucked from the backroom staff of Cronulla in 1997.

"David may not have coached at the top grade but he has a wealth of coaching experience and has an excellent track record in developing players," said Tigers chief executive Richard Wright.

"We have held two face-to-face interviews with him and his enthusiasm for the task in hand is very apparent. His plans for the club's future are very exciting.

"David flew back to Australia after our meeting with him last week but, having being offered and accepting the post, he made arrangements to return at the earliest possible opportunity and we expect him to take charge later this week."

Woods said: "I'm rapped about getting the job at Castleford and really looking forward to getting over there and working with the boys.

"I kept a close watch on the situation at Castleford last season and was aware that there were some problems. But now getting the club back into Super League is what it's all about and I'm sure that we can look forward to a good season."

Wiki isn't even the Canberra captain....it's just that he apparently self-proclaims himself as "Jake the Muss" (from the movie Once Were Warriors) that makes the Kiwi's like him so much i think.....???? :?

Very true, and if you ever see a photo of this David Woods, he's about 10 stone heavier than Parra's old David Woods

Rauhihi was named NZ captain for the night, with Nathan Cayless starting from the bench, but he clearly took the role at least within the team whenever he was on field, and with the ref whenever Rauhihi was benched.
