Look Who Cant Handle Their Own Medicine...

The irony of it all is too much. For years the Broncos have had a monopoly on the market in Queensland, poached players from other clubs, and weaseled their way around salary cap restrictions. Today something happened to them and they couldn't hack it.

Rising three-quarter, Justin Hodges signed with the Roosters yesterday. Today the Broncos cut him from the 25 man squad, saying he would be "unwelcome at training".

Why are the Broncos doing this? Because "it was disappointing to see someone walk out on the club who the Broncos had nurtured".

The Broncos seem to be the Little Emperors of this competition. They're so used to getting their way that when finally something goes against them, they scream foul. And here I was thinking that Wayne Bennet was a great man.........

Cheers.

The Broncos really do have short memories, maybe the Cowboys want to remind them.

I was hoping the Raiders would have made a better effort in signing Justin but the Roosters are masters of the art.

Don't talk to me about the Broncos. The words Tallis, birthday cake and Mundine still ring in my ears.

Well i'm dissapointed to say the least at hodges leaving and the disgusting way the club has handled it.
Hodges apparently has recieved a large sum from the Roosters and went mainly because he wanted to play fullback in the NRL. Fullback was never an option for the Hodges at the Broncos. I don't blame him, its sad to see a player go that the Broncos had groomed but the fact is hes got a dream to play fullback and if he can't achive that at the broncos hes got every right in the world to go somewhere else to presue that dream.
I would like to reserve judgement on Bennett and the broncos admistration before we hear a bit more on the issue. From the outside it looks as though its a bit of sour grapes and there seems to be some bad feelings between Jim Banaghan and the Broncos.

This is the article issued this morning on the Broncos official website, make up your own mind:
THE BRISBANE Broncos wish to advise their fans that Junior Kangaroo, Justin Hodges, last night informed the club that he had accepted an offer to play with the Sydney Roosters.
The club accepts Justin’s decision, but is disappointed at losing a young player the Broncos had nurtured, and who had been earmarked as a replacement for Wendell Sailor.
Broncos Managing Director, Shane Edwards, said this morning that the Broncos believed they had been ethical in all their dealings with Justin Hodges. Mr Edwards maintained the club had offered to provide the 19-year-old with excellent opportunities and financial rewards had he decided to remain with the premiers.
“However, the Broncos fully recognise that we have an extensive wealth of young talent coming through our ranks who have shown tremendous loyalty to this club, which we greatly appreciate,” Mr Edwards said.
“If we had matched, or even come close to the financial offer we believe the Roosters made to Justin, this young man would have been receiving more than many of our Season 2001 State of Origin and Test debutants.”
Mr Edwards revealed that it was common knowledge in Rugby League circles that the Broncos have had an ongoing running battle with Justin Hodges’ manager, Jim Banaghan, over a period of time, over a number of issues and with a number of players.
“In view of that, the Broncos believe it is in the best interests of this club to formally advise players that we will no longer be dealing with Mr Banaghan,” he said.
“We are happy to negotiate with players currently at this club whom he represents, or with any of his players who want to come and play here. However there is no legal obligation for us to deal directly with Mr Banaghan.”

Cheers

I always knew there was an extra $300k space in the Roosters salary cap! What a joke, though credit to their accountant, he is able to make $5,000,000 look like $3,500,000!

Hodges going must of had a personal effect on Bennet, otherwise there is no way that he wouldve allowed him to get embarrased like he did at training.

I am kind of happy that the Broncos have finally lost someone they really wanted to keep but at the same time I am dissapointed that its just another big club getting stronger.I do support the Broncos not matching a offer thats out of his league but its unfortunate few clubs are doing the same.

This could be Bennett's biggest mistake as a coach.
I know when Ben Kennedy left Canberra for Newcastle, the Canberra administration completely lost the plot and tried to destroy Kennedy personally, and the biggest result of all the villification they heaped on Kennedy was to cause a lot of disquiet and disharmony amongst their own players.
Rugby League players are young guys who must make the most out of their limited time in the game. They need to take the oportunities that are presented to them. Club administrators who punish young guys for making decisions on their future will alienate all the other young guys in the club. All the young guys at Brisbane are probably toeing the party line at the moment, but in the back of theirminds they will be thinking about their futures, and what the treatment of Hodges means to them.

I too am disgusted at Wayne Bennett's scrupels in such a situation let alone the Brisbane management. From whatI understand of this situation Bennett got all stroppy on the winger after hearing of the signing and sacked him. The only other time I have heard that happening is at Canberra a few years back, and Meninga was severely reprimanded by the public from what I can remember. And here I was like Hass thinking Wayne Bennett was a great man.

The Broncos attitude is indefensible. I am especially worried about giving (as was reported) $200 per week in free drinks to a 19 year old - that is totally irresponsible. I also wonder how it fits in regard to the salary cap.

Mind you if Easts can afford to pay him $200,000 a season they must be doing okay with their cap.

Cheers

It just gets better..........

Now it seems that the Broncos have threatened Corey Parker with the same treatment given to Hodges if he signs with another club.

It seems Brisbane are all to precious, maybe they could spare a thought for the Rabbitohs. If no clubs had stolen their "nurtured" players, the bunnies would be giving them a severe hiding next year.

Cheers.
