I 100% agree you’re going to have to pay overs to get players, but you need to get the right players for your team.

If you pay Nathan Cleary prices for a player, you’re going to expect him to be the main man, that unfortunately isn’t JLs go.

1.1 million dollar halves need to be running the show, but you’ll have Ceasar running it and paying JL 1.1 to do what Jayden Sullivan can do.

I just can’t see him improving your team, certainly not at that price.

Nailed it.

The reason is why an experienced coach like Flanno was never interested.

I have no doubt almost every team would be interested in him for $700-$900k but not for the money needed

Well said, I'm sure that most of us feel exactly the same.
I’m sure you would feel that way, but unfortunately success does breed increased value to players and the salary cap ensures you can’t keep them all.
Someone else will get a turn, when your time ends. That’s life in sport.

I don't think money will be enough. 200k is $106k after tax. $8,833 a month. Over four years it's a small flat in Penrith. It sounds a lot if you are on a low wage, but $850k a year is a good salary and the extra will not change his life style. He will lose winning bonuses for finals appearances and rep bonuses won't be coming at the Tigers.

Do you get more third party sponsorship in a winning side or as the main man in the wooden spooners? "Hi, I'm Jerome Luai and I can highly recommend this beer, Triple Wooden Spoon Pilsner. It tastes great and is extra strong. When you want to forget losing every week and numb the pain, drink Triple Wooden Spoon Pilsner, you know it makes sense".

Four years of losing for $8k a month. Your body getting smashed up in a side on the back foot. Commute to work, lifelong friends left behind. A political back office, a board in constant turmoil. A rookie coach. Where do I sign, it sounds awesome.
It’s more than that if it’s 1.2 .Thats 350k a year over 4 years over1 million

Let’s hope Ivan at least picks the phone up and calls Jerome this week and lets him know he wants him.while it will not make a difference it is the touch that is needed

I hope that someone is brave enough to spell this out for Jarome.

Or he can pay someone a few bucks to do the maths.

If Luai was to passively invest the after tax difference on $200k gross extra salary over 30 years.

After tax returns:

At 3% = $956,372
At 5.5% = $1,851,767
At 8% = $3,532,852
At 10.5% = $6,645,546

For example the Vanguard Australian Shares Fund has returned 7.32% (pre tax) per annum over ten years.

If it's $350k gross difference multiply by 1.75.

Calculations could be wrong since I did them in five minutes but they look OK.

But but who will he car pool with? What about non guaranteed post playing career opportunities?

Agree with all this. Anyone advising Luai against taking the cash from the Tiges needs their head read*.

* Panthers tragics excluded.

Our offer over the same 4 years.

$3.4m... So it isn't a terrible deal to stay IF it increases his post career income

He wants to play 7? With the best player on the planet playing 7 at Penrith, he obviously has no chance, but maybe with a good game plan, he might make a successful transition, you will never know until it’s tried? I don’t think Ivan’s comments helped his ego.

But, if he comes, he will add a number of benefits to our team:
1. One of our major problems was our lack of attacking options from our halves.
2. Signing an elite player, makes other quality players pause to look at us in a different light as in maybe we are not the basket case that the media portrays us?
3. Will show all players (senior & junior) what it takes to be successful? IMO, we have too many players who have just been satisfied to be called a NRL player and not putting in the hard yards?

I remember a game (details are sketchy) where he blew up the centre (I think it was) for not being in the right position to receive the pass?

I think as a club, we need this sort of professionalism here and I believe he can deliver that.

I hope we get him, bear in mind we were paying our last 7 not much less.

How is he going to invest it over 30 years?

He is going to need to get property or something the produces income when the footy money dries up.

I noticed in GF week him in a Bluebet hat, picking up a few sponsors like that to go with his online gaming/profile longer term. Also does the job.

We gave Edwards and To'o 4 years, they are more risky imo
Yep, both more critical to Pantherball than Luai.

Blade also said if Tigers offer is over $1m p.a. then Luai is gone. I think the only thing we're seeing now is how much Black Magic can bleed from the Tiges.

I don't know, that is why I listed various possible returns and the Vanguard fund's actual return.

Jarome still has the post career opportunities available to him. His club career is already better than every non Storm TV personality (and Lockyer).

You're acting like if he leaves the Panthers he'll be unemployable once he finishes playing.

Mason was as disliked as Jarome when playing and is doing alright being the edgy podcast host. Luai can easily do that sort of thing. He won't stop being a legend to the Samoan community.
