Im in the "I was a fan of him, up until the last two weeks" brigade.. Our defense is poor enough, we can't carry him being targeted every week.

Also, WTF was Tim Moltzen doing last night, a couple of kick returns and thats it.. Is he meant to play as a 2nd 5/8?

I have also generally been a quiet supportor of Liu but he was terrible last night. If that performance doesn't earn him a spot in NSW cup for a couple of weeks then he never will.

I posted on another forum that the move to switch Ellis to the left has me flummoxed.

Ellis Lui & Ayshford were a cohesive unit in attack and defence and gave better balance to the side.

Instead Gareth gets to play like a quasi prop while Marshall ignores his runs to hit his mate Moltzen with inside balls so we can get smashed.

Lui Ellis and Ayshford must be the right side. Lui reads Ellis well and they work well and, unlike Dwyer, Wllis isn't a giant turnstyle

Agreed on all counts, you only have to have a look back at the semi's last year to see it. Lui was protected in defense by Ellis, and also linked up with Ellis in attack. In both the Roosters and Raiders games Lui put Ellis through holes on the right in attack by running hard and straight angles.

As for what Moltzen does - nothing but run off Benji. He never runs off anyone else. He is f**king useless at fullback.

Ellis played on the left late last year. I recall his great tackle on Campese close to the tryline. Ellis was probably positioned to assist Simona.

Lui is usally on the lift with Benji right side. Perhaps Sheens didn't want Lui and Simona defending together?

It is very difficult when the side leaks points so easily.

What baffles me, unlike in years gone by when we had to turn to Farah to fill the no7 role we now have three real options and when one is playing busted week in and week out why not try option B or C. Of course we are talking Tim SHEENS and changes dont usually happen to the ship sinks

Agree 100%- shake the complacency up a bit, demote and promote as needed when you have options.

I'd drop him for a week (two max). He showed in last years semis he has the talent to compete at this level, but is horribly out of form. It may also give Moltzen a chance to get a little confidence playing in his best position, which might help him in the long run for when he's selected at centre/fullback.

Btw, calls for Miller are massively premature. We have a team capable of winning the comp, so I don't think its the time to blood an 18yo halfback. These days you only get a couple of years at the top, before salary cap pressures hits and you need to rebuild. That will be the best time to play him imo.

Ellis played on the left during the semis. The try against the Raiders, the 800 disallowed against the Roosters - all on the LHS.

You are right - then Lui was on the left too?

Either way Ellis and Lui need to be paired together.

Lui cannot tackle. As i've said before, he looks scared to attempot a tackle.

Moltzen at least has a crack. He might not be much better, but he is better. He made a few one on one tackle attempts which halted play before a second defender helped him out.

That is a billion times more effective than Lui defending like its touch footy.

And ffs, drop woods until he learns to hang on to the ball. Every week he coughs the ball up in such simple ways and at most crucial times.

It was actually twice in two tackles. Was in the first half, probably about 15-20 minutes in if I remember correctly. The first tackle he absolutely hammered whoever it was, couldn't believe it was him.

I think its clear he CAN actually tackle, I just don't know why he can't hit with that intent consistently, or at least look like he's showing SOME intent.

Probably a mental thing. He should pretend the guy with the ball is his wife.
