Lui

Lui went off when it was 12-4. But don't let facts get in the way.

Also Moltzen hardly touched the ball when Lui went off the field, he did absolutely NOTHING. If anyone thinks that he had anything to do with us winning that game they are on drugs.

It is not the fact that Moltzen was there, it is the fact that Lui was not.

He is our John Morris.

I fear for us sometimes, Parra had Sterling and have been searching ever since, we had Prince and it also seems we are searching for our next dominant number 7.

Completely disagree. Lui has had 4 very poor games and needs to improve but the pasting he cops is unbelievable. To compare him to Morris, who did not have a creative bone in his body is laughable.

Worst comparison ever.
Morris was a tackling dynamo.....couldnt passkick or see past his own nose though with ball in hand.

Lui is a turstyle, though he can tackle when he puts his mind & shoulder to it, but he can create things, put players in holes, has a great pass (at times)

If we had a 'full-strengh' back-line right now, Lui might find himself taking a few weeks off to find some form in defence... But we just don't have the luxury at the moment.

Fact is, it's convenient to have Moltzen in the centres right now... It gets him back into the rhythm of playing a full 80, without having to do too much of the high-end defensive work or be all things to all people in attack. No, he's not a specialist and it shows, but it's a better spot to have him than fullback, halfback, five-eighth, or hooker while he gets back up to speed.

Let's not forget that up until about a month ago, the last time both Lui and Moltzen were available for selection (ie both capable of playing 80 minutes of first grade football), and Moltzen was not needed elsewhere in the backline, was early in 2010.

The team is holding its own in spite of Lui's defensive liabilities and our reliance on second string outside backs, and Moltzen is recovering his desire and his confidence. If we are still in contention come September, we would hope that either one or both of these gentlemen will be fit and available to play half-back. We're in pretty good shape as long as we have these two in the mix. Why complain?

Melbourne Storm are set to take on Sydney Roosters without anyone playing a traditional halfback role

The way we finished the game without Lui, this may be a good option for us as well, i.e. playing a 7th forward in defence & a back in attack when required of course?

That will take us back to when Craig Field was partnered with Duckworth - the opposition only had 1 option to shut down. Makes no sense to me at all.

I'm a Lui and Moltzen fan. Moltzen played very well and all Tigers fans should be excited he is getting back to his best. His running game is very exciting to watch and thankfully the Tigers value him.

Lui's defence is atrocious and it is up to the coach as to whether he is replaced by Miller.

For what it's worth I'd like to throw my 2 bobs worth in here....I know Lui played well in the back end of last season, but thats yesterdays news, I just don't get why Sheens sticks with him. He is an embarrassment in defence & offering little in attack. He seems to run around not knowing where to run next.....that style of play should be left to Benji who is a genius at creating something from nothing. We can't afford 2 playmakers as a halve's pairing. IMO Moltzen & Benji are the preferred pairing, even Moltzen @ half with Lui at 5/8 if ever the unthinkable happened & Benji was unavailable..... If I'm not mistaken Lui was a 5/8.....with Miller on the bench, then if something happened to either half, Sheens could do his favourite party trick & shuffle 8 players around to accomodate 1 into the team

Changing halves in the run up to the back end of the season is a huge decision to make. If it is attitude, surely Ellis or Heighington must provide guidance on defensive technique. They need to get into his face about tackling and make him realise his attack will flow once his confidence in his tackling returns. Lawrence did it and there is no doubt Lui can as well.

Moltzen had a great game regardless of what some supporters believe. The movement which saw Brown hammered a metre out from the Warriors line involved Moltzen at full pace which is a wonderful sight.

The Moltzen love around here is just sickening. The guy just has to run out onto the field and he has had a "great game".

Do yourself a favour - go back and watch the replay and count how many times Moltzen touched the ball when Lui went off.

BTW if people were actually watching the same game Fulton went to five-eighth and Marshall halfback - but that won't stop people carrying on about Moltzen being the saviour. Its pathetic.

Hybrid, forget the love for Moltzen the fact is that the team went way better once Lui wasn't there to confuse and disrupt things. He needs a spell in the lower grades to get his game in order if that is possible. It can't be argued that he has been one of our worst if not the worst in the past two or three weeks..

Certainly Lui needs to hit the tackling bags a lot during the week. He comes out of the line a lot and makes himself a target when we are defending. Just like Soward has Scott, and Lockyer has Thaiday (and Carroll before him) Lui does need a protector to some degree while he works on his defense. BUT he is not there for his defense solely, his passing game is still ok, and maybe him getting targeted in defense and subsequently criticised has affected his confidence. Benji himself still ALWAYS makes alot of ineffective one on one tackles, but we have worked our way around that Just like the master Bennett worked ways around his defensive weaknesses in his key attackers, so should our team.

Dont blame Lui totally for defensive lapses, he puts in early on in defense, then seems to get jack of it, WT needs to manage that. Protect him or improve him in this area. For those that aren't good at math, Lui made 3 times as many tackles as benji, and half as many missed tackles. His misses just look more spectacular because he literally looks like a turnstile in his action with his pathetic slap on the back as attacker runs by lol. He need some acting classes although. He is becoming a target and thats unfortunate for him, and us.

Looks are looks but stats and analysis help tell the true story and adds illumination.

Everyone has an opinion and their only agenda is seeing the Tigers win - there is nothing sinister going on, just that opinons vary. I personally do not mind being proven wrong if it means the Tigers prosper, so if Lui suddenly finds some magical form and learns how to tackle I will be over the moon. I just don't see it happening.

With the injuries to Lote and Lawrence, Sheens will not be changing the set up of his backline. Miller looks a very good prospect but I doubt Sheens would even consider him at this stage of the season. Like with Benji a few years ago effective protection has to be arranged for Lui's poor defensive game till he improves in that area. I would be looking at using lui in attack and swapping him with Fulton in defensive sets.

Anyway we are winning if only just

Sadly Lui is not offering anything much in attack either atm - the point others have tried to make here is that our attack was not impeded by Lui leaving the field against the Warriors, in fact it improved. I hope injury forces Sheens hand and Lui misses some games. It would be interesting to see how we went with him on the sideline.

He has to work on his technique and stop rushing up so fast.also does he defend on the right side , if so he is most probably seeing more traffic as most teams have a dominant left side attack. As for our attack in the last 15 mins it was more luck, than good management ,that got us home and the fact that we were more desperate than the warriors.

ps It was the Marshall , Farah ,Ellis and ayshford show yesterday so quit it with the over the top praise for Moltzen .I'm not saying he went bad he did have some promising moments but he was not one of the main players in yesterdays win...

Just keep it real stop Gushing....

Just a few notes here on your post.
Stats do show benji also misses some tackles,, but at least he trys to get up and remake the tackle and also at least he puts his body on the line and himself in a position to at least attempt a tackle. You can see Lui at times obviously know there is a big gap but fails to move into it because he fears he will have to make a tackle.
As far as having a protector you are right... Lui does already have one tho, his name is T Sheens. ;-)

This brings me back to my earlier post - he is not yet an 80 minute player. We have Miller waiting in the wings, why not play them both instead of carrying a winger or debutant centre on the bench most weeks?
