So...

When Moltzen plays at halfback, the game plan is just to get Benji to bomb it every time we get close to the line?

This is EXACTLY what I said earlier, playing Moltzen at #7 just puts more pressure on Benji. He offers nothing with ball in hand, nothing at all. One good bomb in 80 minutes.

Yeah I thought Lui looked much sharper than Moltzen in the playmaking role.

If Benji is out for a few weeks, one or both of those lads will have to step up and own it. If not now, then when?

Lui better in the halves than Moltzen, Simona better in the centers than Moltzen, McKinnon better as a fullback then Moltzen. Time to offload him, we cannot have him playing fullback next year.

I don't agree with you about the fullback. Neither did Fulton. He was adamant McKinnon lacked the pace to keep up with the game and was impacting on the attack and defence.

Moltzen is a few games back from the reconstruction. You need to be patient.

A few games back, yes. I agree with that... His best is yet to come.

But as a fullback Moltzen is lazy with his kick-returns and nowhere to be seen when a half-break is made.

That said, he has been cobbled into a "utility" pretty much since day one, and may be suffering from some kind of identity crisis as a result. If he is given another go at the fullback spot he might take it a little less for granted next time. Will be interesting to see how he goes with his own number on his back, so to speak...

Moltzen has become the forums whipping boy. Okay he is not in great form but gee he is not the only one who is struggling. Against the Storm he hardly played the 7 role, I thought he went a bit better than past weeks made a couple of very good tackles against the Storms right edge attack.

You cant expect anyone to walk into the halves and take control in game no1. Most of our problems come from lack speed right across the field. The storm throw a couple of inside balls and burns off the paddock, we throw the same balls and get mobbed by their defense.

The good teams are going to smash us

My main issue with Moltzen is that he does not have any of the attributes of a quality halfback, and has hardly ever played a traditional halfback role when he is selected in the halves. Organisational skills: none. Kicking game: one good bomb in how many years? Rarely ever kicks in general play. Passing game: Nothing spectacular that I have seen

This is why I don't understand anyone calling for him to play #7. His selection just forces Marshall to play halfback and that is a tried and failed experiment as we have seen over the years.

Moltzen is a running five-eighth pure and simple, and unfortunately for him we have the best in the business on our books in that department. I don't see room for him elsewhere given he is also not a fullback, maybe utility given he can cover the centres, and halves? But on the reported $$ he is on, that is an expensive 5 minutes per game.
