I think he would be a great captain but he seems reserved on the idea himself. So maybe not the best to put the c next to his name but make him part of the leadership group if we have one? Obviously he is to be admired how he came back from his troubles and been our best signing the past 2 years and has really embodied what being part of our great club is about.

Despite the talk I don't think Hayne really wants to be captain or have that extra responsibility? But we do need a captain that Hayne respects and looks up to in terms of leadership, rather than someone he'll (potentially) clash or be a cross-purposes with.

Maitua might be the man for the (c), moreso than Smith or Keating. And maybe moreso than Mannah who is still young and might only play between and 40-55 minutes, where Maitua should be doing around 65-70 minutes per game.

Obviously they all (especially Hayne) have to be on some sort of leadership group regardless of who gets the official (c) next to their name, and the other duties that come with it.

Reno to me seems like more of a role model than a captain. As in he should be commended and thought of highly by younger guys from how he carried himself through his suspension and his NRL return. But if he is captain what a return it'll be hey

I've heard that Maitua has already been inviting the lads around his pad for pizza nights so he must be gearing up for the big (c).

Fixed the broken hyperlink.

I agree with Reni that he shouldn't have been in that area at that time - not if he wants to be a role model and take on leadership responsibilities anyway. The maturity and restraint he showed in the incident are great qualities for a captain but IMO he would need to make some lifestyle choices to get the C next to his name, so that he doesn't put himself in that situation again.
Being a leader takes some sacrifices and I fully support Reni should he chose to step up and lead by example both on and off the field.

Well said - I agree 100%.

The way I read it is that he hasn't said he doesn't want to be captain.

Those terms don't include Parramatta's captaincy - a job Maitua refuses to covet publicly.

The above is not a quote by Reni, it's implied by the journalist. He just doesn't want to focus on it (or covet it publicly), and that in the past he's been uncomfortable with being a leader. I think those are great traits of a captain/leader.

I heard he doesn't covet thy neighbour's wife either, which is important in a captain. It was certainly Wayne Carey's weak point as a leader.
