Samoa should tell him to f**k off, but they won't because the majority of their team is built around players like this.

Your correct. The sooner the RLIF brings in a rule that once you have played for a country at senior level there is no going back the better to stop all this switching countries nonsense. This sort of thing does damage to the image Rugby League at International level.

If the RLIF brought that rule in then these guys plus a lot more would never play for Samoa ever.

Nothing will change until International league is taken seriously and I doubt that will happen for a long time if ever.

Having said that, lol @ Papalli. Already having a sook and Australia haven't even selected their team yet. What a mercenary.

Ridiculous. According to the story they can now switch every two years.... And that's not enough?

It's as if they feel entitled to be playing in Internationals - who with not being a consideration.

Thing is he will most likely be picked for Australia so all this is just paper talk.

I agree with one nation for life after repping, but the closest we will get IMO is that with a dispensation for a World Cups.

I really hope some countries, Samoa, Australia, New Zealand to start with would just not pick guys again after they switch to another nation. But they need to announce it with a 'from now' date so the guys all know the rules (more likely their managers know the rules I guess).
I'm not sure that the RLIF will rule on it.

I picked Samoa out of the Islands as they seem to me most likely.

I'm not totally opposed to this in principle, if it's accepted that Samoa is a second tier nation.

But Papali'i is a shit and I hope he never plays international or representative football again. That'll serve him right

how about 1 nation per WC cycle which every player has to declare before any squads are selected and not the other way around.
With maybe an exception if a nation has only compiled a team after the register date (eg. Anasta playing for Greece) i'd be ok with that.

This is about one thing and one thing only - State of Origin. Players like Segeyaro, Milford, Papili, Uate are scared to harm their Origin chances so will reject their country every time - even if that means they will never get picked for Australia or their nation (Samoa, Tonga, Fiji).

If you made Origin rules that said you had to be living in your state before the age of 13 but could represent any country you wanted to internationally then you would find players putting their hand up for who they really wanted to play for.

Is it that difficult?

It is not completely about origin, nz has just as many players who could/should be playing for other countries. It is about lack of a schedule for all nations, the ability to switch nations pretty much at will, lack of prestige and importance on international rugby league and a weak international governing body which is basically non existant!

Yes, but a more competitive and star-studded Fiji, Samoa or PNG side would be much more attractive to Aus, NZ and England for future tests and tours. That means if someone like Australia throws its teddy out of the pram (2015) the game doesn't come to a standstill.

Origin is an interstate rep series. You can be Fijian or Papuan and a Queenslander too. Families move all over the world now for work and lifestyle.

Lets be real if papalii and milford could earn the same amount playing for samoa as they do playing for oz they would play for samoa. They do it for their families as the majority come from poor backgrounds the money they earn sets up their families its pretty undestandae.

Like Hutch said. What about the Islanders changing to NZ? Hell Brough etc have changed to England in the past. It's not only Aust but short of more internationals. It won't change

scotland, wales & ireland aren't short of internationals though...they've played nigh on 50 tests betweem them since 2007..

and letting islanders play origin & for a island will probably really damage NZ cos kiwi players with islander heritage will like opt for a island nation over NZ so they are eligible for origin

Yeah it's a hard one. Don't get me wrong Papalii's in the wrong going for a second option.

If you make 1 nation for life. These sort of players will just wait to play any sort of internationals. Without tests you can't keep them in these countries.
