Management and the Coach

I really don't know what people expect...

A few years back everyone was crying about management not retaining players, the coach not getting along with the players, etc. etc...

With yet another player signing on for the long term I think it proves that management are doing a pretty good job with recruitment (I mean no one could have guessed how poorly Orford would go) and retaining our juniors and they all appear to really get along well with and respect the coach... yet still the "fans" continue to bitch and moan...

I agree it's been a shit season, and yes I'm sure there are some things we could have done better in every department but at the end of the day, I really don't think we can sit here and cry about anyone in particular...

Fact - Our best players (as a collective) have spent more time on the sideline than playing this year.
Fact - Our team has been playing WELL below par, mainly from defence and handling errors.
Fact - We do have a game plan that appears to be "just get the basic right first" to try and fix this but it hasn't...
Fact - We proved last year that once the team starts firing and getting the basics right we can start to expand on that and play really expansive and well planned attacking footy (we just never got to that point yet).

So how about we all stop trying to find someONE to blame, say it was just a combo of shit luck, shit form and that the team as a collective are the ones who have failed this year, not just the coach or the management or some other thing we decide to throw our focus on... (except the refs, they generally suck, hehe)

I for one saw what we could do with a fit team who did the basics right last year, and I believe we can do it again with the current players and coach we have (although a new hooker wouldn't hurt).

Ive said a few times , you cant blame it just on one thing.

Injuries have played a part , the 17 that take the field have played theirs.
DF has contributed as have some of the board. The season has been a collective effort . They can all share the blame.

The retention has been very good , the best its been for many years.

Theres one more thing management have to do , cut our losses with Orford.

the fact that we've been good for 20, 30 minutes nearly every week suggests injuries have little to do with it - it's down to attitude and/or preparation.

of course guys like croker and buttriss are happy to sign long term deals, and probably ferguson too - there wouldn't have been much interest. fensom was a great resigning - but other than that, it's been ho hum. we shouldve been out recruiting a hooker and a centre (or two.)

had they researched orford and his injury properly, they wouldn't have taken him. I'm still not that critical of the signing - we had to take a risk. the problem with orford is that he played 4 games more than he shouldve, he clearly wasn't up to it physically. but furner and co persisted as we lost 8 in a row and watched the season slip away under a 7 who was persisted with in the hope he'd come good... u waste 2 months and are right back to square 1 anyway when he never comes good.

Why can't we have a coach that knows what he is doing and is liked by the players? Furner fills the latter but knows what he is doing? Tongue at hooker, Miller starting over Fensom says otherwise.

Problem 1: John McIntyre & the board
Problem 2: David Furner & his coaching staff

Stop blaming other trivial things. They're just petty excuses. Our problems are obvious to all but a few highly delusional, blind optimistic fans.

Cryptic,

you can not blame things on injuries, we went out near full strength vs panthers.. we had EVERY to play for.. at home against a team with nothing to play for, we missed one solid forward and one five eight and we still looked rubbish..so i highly doubt you can mention injuries as the reason.. there are fundamental problems in our structure as a team.. as well as preperation and general team intelligence..

we have retained very well and yes mgmt shoudl get some pat on the back for retaining players (kinda expected though)

do you think if we had a coach of experience of talent like a bellamy or bennett we would be turning up this rubbish.. i dont think we would and i think DF is a big part of our trouble.. maybe the guy needs more time to prepare.. but that shouldnt be on our clock.

Waddell and Buttriss shared the hooker role for about 6 or 7 games early on in the season.

How did that go?

I'd love to see you walk into Raiders HQ one day and tell them what you think of them and then hand in your membership.

But you won't, because you're just another whining bitch.

So missing:

Mataora
TLL
Buttriss
Thurling
Miller

And that's only ONE solid forward? How is living under a rock going for you? And again our 5/8 is our highest paid and best player... Take that out of any club and they are f**ked...

Much better than anything Tongue did at hooker.

Please oh god of league, inform us who you want as hooker instead? From our current run of players who would you put there...

You know one thing that didn't happen with Tongue in the middle of the park this weekend? We didn't get split up the middle 5 times in 20 minutes... He may have lost his edge in tackling but at least he is able to control the team out there... If our edge defence learnt to f**king tackle we might be going OK, but again I know that's totally the coachs fault as he apparantly tells them to miss tackles out there right?

I don't think that's true at all.

Waddell was utter rubbish and Buttriss is a better player off the bench.

I am as unhappy with Tongue playing at hooker as anyone else is, but I don't really see any other options.

Sure, Matt McIlwrick could be promoted to NRL, but we are already by far the least experienced team in the NRL as it is.

Don't forget, Furner coaches them to drop the ball as well.

Buttriss aka the guy that will be starting hooker next season.

As for the edge defense, how about doing some drills with the players to fix up their positioning. The problem has been there for years, and that is with a whole range of players slotting into that position. Are you telling me every single back we promote has this same problem.
