Forgery investigation
By DEAN RITCHIE

February 02, 2006

A LEADING player manager is facing an embarrassing investigation over allegations he forged the signature of a Parramatta player.

Agent Gavin Orr, who manages superstar Sonny Bill Williams and other high-profile players, is alleged to have forged the signature of Parramatta's Fuifui Moimoi.

The Daily Telegraph has obtained copies of two differing signatures which are a key to an investigation into Orr's right to be officially registered by the NRL as an agent.

Orr's case is being studied by an NRL accreditation committee following a complaint from Parramatta chief executive Denis Fitzgerald.

It is alleged Orr forged the signature of Moimoi in a Letter of Intent with Melbourne Storm before the player signed to remain at Parramatta.

The Daily Telegraph understands the newly appointed accreditation committee may recommend Orr not be officially sanctioned.
The committee - which includes chairman Geoff Bellew, NSWRL official Martin Meredith, player managers David Riolo and Alan Gainey and RLPA representative and Canberra hooker Simon Woolford - will meet to discuss the issue this month.

Interesting... the actual article in the paper is longer, and they showed the two different signatures... quite different from each other I have to say. Orr says that there are other managers guilty of misdemeanors and if the committee wants to take him down, he's going to go down swinging, or words to that effect.

We could be in for an interesting few weeks.

Not sure he is a popular boy in the NRL. He was hauled over the coals in regard to the SBW deal with Gatorade as well I think.

Orr is someone the game wouldn't miss. It's a pity that they can't do anything to stop him from representing players.

wasnt orr involved in that school kid thing a few years where the kids were taken to a brothel or soemthing?

Yes he was. I wonder how this will affect his brother? Chris seems to be the more 'professional' player manager of the two.

The worst one is Frank Endacott.

"Yippee ki yay, love the country, love the Warriors, but damned if I'm gonna let any of my 'boys' stay at the club, releases for everyone."

Not happy, Frank.

The article in the paper quoted Denis Fitzgerald as saying he doesn't want Orr anywhere near the game... Orr attributed this to his bad relationship with Fitzgerald.

If what the paper says is true, and Orr forged a signature on a letter of intent with Melbourne to stop Moi Moi going to Parramatta, I would say that a bad relationship with Fitzgerald would be understandable. I can't say if I was in Denis' shoes I'd appreciate that sort of thing.

While there can't be much done to stop Orr from representing players even if he doesn't get accredited it will still have a major effect

- Players will not trust Orr and will look elsewhere for a manager as they will always be thinking "Will he do this to me"
- Clubs will refuse to talk to Orr which will lead to his clients (if he has any) from not getting the best possible offer which will also lead to players not wanting him as manager.

The only reason that this didn't blow up any earlier was due to Melbourne's reaction

This whole thing started about 12 mths ago when Fui was off contract, Orr had signed a letter of intent with the Storm and then a couple of weeks later Fui signed the deal with Parramatta to stay there for the 2005-2006 seasons, Fui/Parra asked the Storm if Moimoi could be let out of the deal he had signed with them and they agreed even tho legally they didn't have to, had the Storm decided they wanted Fui to honour the letter of intent he had apparently signed this whole incident would've be made public a while ago.

Read a story on this in the Sunday Mail (Queensland) and in it they said the maximum criminal penalty for forging a signature on a legal contract is 10 years in prison .

Getting acreditation from the NRL might be the least of Orr's problems from this.

When was the last time you heard the maximum penalty being dished out for anything? Hell, even Bilal Skaif had his sentence reduced on appeal because his actions were not in the worst category for rapists.

He should have been investigated many years ago for posing as a first grader as well.
