Manly desperate for win.

MANLY will be desperate to end a worrying two-game losing streak at Brookvale Oval when they host Penrith in a vital round 20 NRL clash on Sunday.

In previous years the ground, dubbed Fortress Brookvale, has proven a difficult venue for visiting teams.

But not this season with Manly having lost three of their past five matches at Brookvale.

Their last victory at the ground was on June 9 when Manly came from behind to snatch a dramatic final minute victory over the West Tigers.

It's a mini-slump the players are very keen to end when they face Penrith at Brookvale on Sunday.

``We desperately want to win this game,'' prop Jason King said last night.

``Coming back to Brookie is a massive opportunity to try and put some form back on the board.''

Hooker Michael Monaghan said the importance of winning at home had not been lost on the players.

``It's something we are aware of and something we definitely want to fix this weekend,'' he said.

``You always like to win your games at home.

``If you win the majority of games at home it sets you up for the rest of the year.''

Meanwhile Steve Matai's manager Gavin Orr revealed the fringe New Zealand centre had sought assurance from coach Des Hasler that he is part of their long-term plans following the high-profile signing of Jamie Lyon.

``The day after (Manly signed Lyon) Des rang me and said Steve is a big part of the club,'' Orr said yesterday.

Matai said he was prepared to play anywhere when Lyon arrives at the Sea Eagles next season.

``I prefer to play centre but if they see me playing somewhere else I'm just going to have to do what the team wants me to do,'' he said.

``I'm not really focusing on that.

``I'm just trying to play good for the rest of the season for Manly.''
