Hiku played really really bad. Like honestly, if you watched the game you would have to agree.

As the game wore on, the Maoris became far too predictable. aboriginals backline was world class.

Good win to the Indigenous side and the Maori show the folly of going into matches without at least one recognised half. This seems to be a uniquely NZ thing to do, the Kiwis will pick anyone as long as it's not Benji and the Warriors don't give a fudge and rolling the dice in the halves.

Even average club halves who can give a team direction would have improved the Maori side tonight. It's a waste of a pack when you have guys not used to playing in the halves and there was actually some talent in the backline (Whare, Gagai and Marsters) who can do some damage when given decent ball.

(I posted this in the match thread on the NRL section, so rather than re-write my thoughts have just copied it).

Yeah Hiku making the squad will (once again) be a bonus for anyone playing against us. He was not good.

Seems like another Konnie. Attack good, defence not so good.

Speed men were a big difference and that will most likely show through the season. JAC is a speed freak.

Who's our fastest?

If RTS can keep injury free I think he could have another huge year.

Could be a good year for the warriors if our halves are established early. Expect it will take some time to gel in regular NRL. Pick and stick please Mooks. Unless we're talking Hiku...

What annoys me is all the Hiku lovers ain't saying shit now. Pita(ful) Hiku continues to cement his status as 'proper shithouse' but one good game and all of a sudden his fans are back on here, with no memory of his performance that IMO, COST the Maoris that game.

Lol Hiku was mud but he wasn’t the 20 point difference between the sides. That’s on more than one player.

There are loads of good attributes in Hiku general play. He has been swapped all over the joint to fill in for players who specialise in said positions. There is no doubt he has flaws in his defence but most times its not due to poor technique. Its more related to fatigue covering loads of ground or his support players around him are f**king headless chickens jeopardizing the defensive line.

Cracks me up how some of you experts carry on.

I know you like him and fair enough, he has done some good things for us. For me, the bad that Hiku does, far outweighs the good. I'm sure guys like Blake Ayshford have lesser error counts, yet these selectors of him, still hold him in high regard. Jamie Lyon put him on a pedestal at Manly as an outside back and that's where he should stay.

It wasn't his defence that pissed me off during that game on Friday night, it was his dropping of the bombs he was given. One of them led to a try. Season hasn't even started yet and already his performance is up for scrutiny.

I'm not a huge fan of Hiku, but he's a better centre for the Warriors than Kata.

The bombs being dropped in an early game in a position he doesn't really play doesn't bother me too much.

After all how many bombs is he going to get playing at stand off? :p

Played there many a time. He's not a half or a centre. We seen people go right through him time and time again last year. The forums littered with his poor defensive displays everytime he's gone in field. His best years was at Manly playing as an OUTSIDE back alongside Jamie Lyon. He's an outside back and to be fair, he's normally pretty good under the high ball but I just reckon he sux.

Well he's definitely not a half, but I think he'll play games in the halves this year, and he a couple of really poor defensive games last season ... however, Kata has weeks on end of poor defensive reads but is considered a 'centre'.

I'm not even a huge fan but I think you're laying into him a bit too much - even though I was swearing to high heaven at him on Friday night. ;)

Yeah maybe I am but geez...very frustrating game to watch. Hope it's not a sign of things to come.
Understandable as that was a terrible performance on the night - I'm still more concerned with (my negative obsession) Kata so don't focus on other random Warriors so much.

I'm no Hiku fanboy, but... the try from Hiku's dropped bomb should have have been called back as the Indigenous player (can't remember who) went straight at Hiku, never looked upward for the ball, and jumped across Hiku making enough contact near his face to give him slim chance of catching it. It was blatant live and even more so on replay.

Don't talk sense too much in here lol. It was obviously a no try but keep giving Hiku crap no matter the rules lol. Oh he has the most metres ran too and that's because he was covering the headless chickens in the back-line I was referring to earlier. Hiku isn't your graceful typical league player. He does the job asked of him and gives his all. I agree with one thing that most people say on here though. Hiku is best at winger and I am okay with that. Expect him to fill a few spots this season I just hope its winger mostly pending injuries and form.
