Maroons team for the successful 2021 Origin series

Ten or more debutants in an upset winning after-season series in 2020. Injuries to certain selections then in David Fifita and Kalyn Ponga tested our depth. Lots of perceived no-names stood up for the jersey and the fans, as per the forty years of history. Patrick Mago looked good for a bench spot in today’s game.

Jaxson Paulo is another who could potentially be eligible as well depending if he fits the criteria. He's a Nerang Roosters junior but was born in Auckland so it will come down to what age he moved and really what he and the selectors want to do. I can't see him in the mix at this stage especially with his history with concussions.

It's a shame what happened to Andrew Davey. He was an outside chance but to have that opportunity of NRL stardom snuffed out by injury is very cruel.

I'd say the biggest story of the weekend for the Maroons was the form of Fifita and what he did to his ex-team. His first try really opened up the floodgates and he put the result beyond doubt early in the second half. It was an encouraging performance from Big Dave and for the Maroons sake I hope it spurs him on. He's a freakish talent but at this stage I think he'll be better coming off the bench for the Maroons than being a starter and having to assert himself physically in the opening stages.

Forward pack is ridiculously good. Left centre is a gaping black hole. Ponga strong chance to start I guess, then not sure who is the best option to go on bench. Probably still Brimson and shift Ponga into the line.

Yeah I've noticed Jarrod Wallace is going well as well. He seems to cut the crap out of his game of giving away stupid penalties and yapping with the opposition players. He has put his down and he's bum up and is working hard. Moeaki Fotuaika is now coming of the bench because Wallace has been going too well for the Titans.

Dylan Napa comes off contract at the end of year from the Bulldogs and faces the chopping block from reports. Not exactly a sign that he's in a riveting form at the moment.

Collins, Carrigan & Friend all gone. Unfortunately that centre spot is still an issue and will be for a few more years I suspect.

Carrigan was never in the frame.

As good as Collins has been, front row is one position we can cover. A shame to lose him though he was excellent last year and looked to be better this year.

Friend was exceptional but Grant is the future, and Mahoney not far behind.

Opacic may be worth a look at centre, options are slimmer than a fly shit.

Strong squads....

Barring injury I’d suggest that Qld have the better forwards while NSW have the better backs..

But all that opinion and logic goes out the window when a game starts..

I’m looking forward to this series, very interesting to see how things pan out..
