marquee players

I, along with many others, i assume, am wondering why on earth we can't buy marquee players in the positions we desperately need. We are losing some players at the end of the year due to retirement and moving on, but how come we can't seem to snap up, or maintain the talented youngsters that we already have such as Jackson Hastings? I can't see how the Sharks can buy half of the Tigers team plus maintain Gallen and sign Carney, yet also recently sign Blake Ferguson, with all the issues they are having, and i'm not even touching on teams like the Rorters and Storm, who have star cladded teams....why do we go to sleep when it comes to purchasing and retaining decent players?...so frustrating, especially considering we are arguably the most famous sporting team in the world! :?

Out of the signings that we have made, who will add value, and who will be duds, and where's Beale going to play next season with Doogs keeping the custodian's role?

Ok 1.blake ferguson hasn't signed with cronulla and there is no guarantee he will
2.hastings was always a fair bet to go to he club his dad played for, that has a nsw halves combo(good luck with that then)
3.its well known wests are still paying a fair chunk of the contracts for fifita Gibbs and heighington so their cheap for cronulla
4.storm are losing players left right and centre to pay for three players hence why we got widdop.
5.our recruiting for next year is pretty good, widdop Farrell Joel Thompson Sam Williams et al
6.once we piss off the coach and replace him with a coach that knows how to coach it will all start to fall into place.
Hope that helps
Go the dragons sarah!!!

...Sarah,

we're just not used to it - so we're not very good at it.

We Need to practise it more at training and then along with strategies to develop and maintain a positive attitude ...maybe we'll get it right ...for next week.

Oh never mind.

Sarah there are many similarities between us and Palm Island in North Queensland. We both have historical significance, rich heritage, ideal location. But alas a goodly portion of the residents are lepers.

hey Stanley welcome aboard - when are you making an appearance at the Gong again ?

Beale - could be headed to the Bulldogs or another NRL club if he WANTS to play fullback, that's for the Dragons & him to work out

Gareth Widdop - value as another game breaker like Dugan who is a real spark in attack individually or combining with others, but will have some doubting his ability to succeed away from the Storm

Sam Williams - hopefully value as a half who forms a good partnership with Widdop

Joel Thompson - value ( some concern over him being injury prone ), definitely best suited to the Dragons as a hard running back rower who can also be a defensive force. He should be available as an option in the centres if injury/suspension have a significant impact ( with Runciman, Farrell, Beale & the Stanley brothers in front of him for that position though )

Dylan Farrell - unsure of best position, depends on Beale's future, should be value as a backup centre & wing at worst. If Beale leaves, give him a go as a starting centre.

Mike Cooper - could be a Cutters player or be the surprise packet & add some much needed grunt to our forwards

Peter Mata'utia - at this stage a depth signing, but could develop if given a chance through injury, suspension or poor form of others

Josh Ailaomai - hopefully develops via Cutters & plays some NRL for the Dragons in 2014 & regularly in 2015

I thought Drinkwater was a long term halves option for the Dragons, had a lot of hype on him when they brought him in from Manly 20's, and then before he busted his knee Kyle Stanley was going to be Soward's long term replacement, so looks like we have a bit of quality depth in the halves for next season with Widdop, Williams, Drinkwater and Stanley on deck. We need to keep Beale, a team in our situation can't be letting players like him leave the club. Where is Weyman going to next season?

Weyman has signed a 2 year with Hull KR

I don't know if Drinkwater is staying though - anyone ?

When fifita was told to look elsewhere, he signed an upgraded contract ( more money) with the sharks compared to tigers. Tigers aren't paying anything.

Do you think Sarah that maybe we can buy marquee players in the positions we need them......BUT the fact we have a crap coach that has proved he is way out of his depth may have something to do with the fact that they just choose to play elsewhere....me thinks so.

My point is the tigers are paying fairly large chunks of three playerscontracts at the sharks if fifitas not one then the third will be beau Ryan either way the three are comparatively cheap until their deals end with the tigers, then there's no guarantees that all three will stay hence my real point,we get all of our players on complete and transparent deals no third party subsidies as is what's happening at cronulla that, we should be proud of.
Go the dragons 2014!

Agree however some reservations such as.Will dugan get through an off season without getting into trouble. Will widdop return to full fitness & speed. Will williams finally learn to tackle. Can thompson stay relatively injury free for a full season.
