I said maybe Samy could provide some insight to his pace compared to the Addo Carrs, Roberts, etc not that he definitely could. I dont know whether there is some information floating around about players times over 40m, 100m etc. I'd imagine there is something available that recruitment officers refer to.

Carlton
He and field are our fastest not sure about other teams.
I don't think they would tell everyone about there own speedster.
But I would think that Jimmy the jet would win most 100 meter sprints.
I would say dufty get his pace by not having to slow down when swerving or changing directions

If you could coach the fear of taking a bomb out of him, he'd be a terrific FB. But unfortunately he's 23, going on 40 NRL games and he still looks like a potato underneath a high kick... He'll forever be an X-Factor with huge deficiencies in his game imo. Hopefully wrong, because Ive been a Dufty advocate since seeing him in SG ball.
This sums up my feelings on Dufty. I’m a fan but after 40 games the difference between his best & worst is bigger than it should be.
I love the X factor & speed he brings but comes up short with his kick returns(hits the line too upright & is easily man handled) & still gun shy under the high ball.
The above can be worked on but I think the real test is having another fullback putting pressure on him for his spot. I don’t think we have that in the club at the moment.

It's obviously a confidence problem. At training I bet he catches near 100%.

His try against the Chooks was the best solo effort since Nathan Blacklock wielded his magic at the Dragons. Sure Blacklock also had some defence deficiencies, but he could score more than he let in. I'm a Dufty fan and I'm glad he's our fullback as he brings speed and excitement to the team dynamic.

Thanks Samy, this is what I was trying to get at that he is fast but his speed seems to be more acceleration (I think he could be close to the fastest player in the league over 20-30 meters) and as you say the fact he doesn't lose speed when he is changing direction. I feel, rightly or wrongly, that his outright speed is not quite up with the games absolute fastest players.

Big fan of the Duf.

However, as someone has already stated, he hasn't grown into the fullback role. Apart from some flashes of individual brilliance, the rest is really heart in mouth stuff. Bombs, getting driven back in tackles and simple errors are not improving.

In saying that he is definitely an X-factor and it's becuase he is an X-factor, who can change a game, that he has to be in the 17.

Again, I come back to McGregor and his obsession with a back on the bench. That back has to be the X-factor tgat can come on fresh and change the momentum of a game. This is where I believe Dufty would best service the team (basicalky the same roll Field played in his brief cameos in 2018), comung on at eitger fullback or even in the halves, would inject some energy and pace.

Who then plays fullback? Well the obvious answer is Lomax. He showed enough for me to suggest he has the defense and attack to be dynamic from there.

Just my thoughts.

I agree his try was one of the best solo tries I can recall.

He's some distance from being a Tngha though.
Blacklock was a scoring machine for over 8 years.. Year in year out, from age 21.

Matt is exciting, but until his defensive reads, bomb diffusing skills etc are improved, then he will remain rocks and diamonds.

I hope for ours sake and his , he does take steps to address these issues. FB is his position to keep or lose. I wish him well.

True but a little different. Catching bombs isn't about "effort". It's about ability and confidence. Dufty has the former but if he can't get the latter, we need to find a new FB.

I think confidence comes from the security of knowing you can make mistakes & not get the chop. Dufty has that luxury & I’m hoping he takes it otherwise it’s not going to end well for him or the club you would think.

Agree but within reason. He can drop a few like every fullback and winger does but he can't do it consistently or let balls bounce he could get to on the full.

Fully agree. Even the likes of Tedesco & Turbo make mistakes but they make up for it. Duftys just got lift his commitment to wanting the ball is those tricky situations to put the opposition on notice. At the moment I sense the opposition sense his trepidation & are taking advantage of it.

Dufty has a light frame and a little Soward in him. He either builds up his body or his bravery to remain in first grade.
