Cowra rugby league premier division forward pack that already looked to have plenty of bite has received yet a further boost with the confirmation that workaholic backrower Matt Frazer has signed for another season with the Magpies.
Frazer has been one of Cowra's outstanding forwards over the past few seasons and now joins what looks to be probably the best pack to turn out for the Magpies since the days of Glen Bourne, Peter Martin, Bernie Wilkinson, Myke Field etc .
Among those after spots in the engine room are Dean Ryan, Bob Hunt, Matt Frazer, Jamie Pomfrett, Jason Doyle , Steve Andriskie and hopefully Phil Kollas and Steve Woodhouse.
A backrower from the ACT has also confirmed that he wants to trial with the Magpies and all going well will no doubt add even further depth to the new look Cowra pack.
The backs also look to have a solid platform with experienced campaigners Jason Pitt and Dean Murray already signed along with two of the most exciting prospects in the Group in Will Merritt and Warren Williams and the untapped potential of Cameron Williams. Rodney Doolan and Ben Clarke are among others who have returned to the Magpies.
TRAINING ON
WEDNESDAY
Cowra Magpies first training session for 2004 will take place at West Cowra Recreation ground on Wednesday, January 7, starting at 6.pm.
Training is for all grades and will continue at just one night a week until further notice.
Please Note! All players are requested to bring their swimming costumes as there will be time in the pool this will be followed by a BBQ. All intending players are very welcome.
Premier League coach and former Penrith first grader Greg Clements is hoping for a good turn out despite the heat and holidays.
"We are keen to see what depth we have and just who will be with us this coming season," he said .
"Players enthusiasm at this stage is encouraging, and there no reason why this won't continue into the season," he added.
When quizzed about likely positions to be filled in the first grade side he replied.
"It's far too early to think about allocating positions, we will be concentrating on fitness under club trainer Barry Craig over the coming weeks, besides there are probably others out there who might like to join us."
