Matt Orford Over-rated....

If Manly had a decent halfback, they'd be in the top4 by now. Orford needs to improve in all facets of his game. His attacking kicking game is crap; too many grubbers past deadball line or too many bombs too deep for chasers. He kicks too much on 5th tackle when they got overlap or he passes short when he should pass out back. Anyone can look good when they got Watmough running beside them. Defensively he misreads plays and misses too many tackles. I dunno why they're making him a priority signing for next year. I reckon Foran would play better HB even though he is more suited to 5/8. They should try get Monaghan when he comes back from England.

Manly's the most talented team in the comp but they keep stuffing up. Outplayed the tigers by a mile and still lost. Should've beaten them by at least 10pts. All they had to do was pass inside balls to their big men like Watmough. Blame their lack of direction in attack = Orford.

Ox did do some shocking last play options on Monday night; I would love to see Manly develop Foran at Halfback, great defence, good kicking skills and a bit of mongrel in his game. I think it will come down to how much coin Ox wants to stay….

Cant see him being anywhere nears as effective at halfback. 5/8 is his go and he will be very good.

He has never played origin or for Australia. Tbh, he has never actually been rated.

Yes some of his options on Friday night we're dubious, but so was the abysmal completion rate.

Spot on. In fact it would be interesting to put together a top 10 list of best players to have never played Origin. I think he would make my list.

Not many halfbacks have so consistently over a long period of time played at successful clubs, made finals series, won premierships, won individual awards, and been oh so close to State of Origin without ever actually running out onto the field.

I'd have picked him in front of Wallace that's for sure, although admittedly that's a bit like saying I'd have picked him in front of a pot plant.

he didnt have 6 tackles left it was 5th and last when he snapped that drop kick, and if he'd got it u would have been calling him a hero. we dont have anyone better and yur doing a parra and trying to play everybody out of position. Keiran foran is a great prospect but u say u would drop orford because he doesnt handle presseure when has foran ever had to step up. Everyone said that orford could handle pressure and yet we won a grand final 40 nil. u've got to be less hard on him and stop trying to consider playing ppl out of position. IT DOESNT WORK. besides i'd rather orford than brett finch arent u all glad we never went there

I agree that when he's under pressure, he is just as likely to come up with a poor option as a good one.

One of the reasons Manly were so successful last season was, Jamie Lyon playing regularly at 6. The two of them work very well together, perhaps because Lyon takes enough of the playmaking role away from Orford that it frees him up to make better decisions from the lighter workload.

He's still a good player, but as I've stated before....Manly would be better served moving him on and developing Foran and Hodkinson.

I'd like to see Lyon take those options rather than ox. Obviously the field goal wasn't possible as he is carrying an injury.

That pass was unnecessary. He had more chance to score himself. That is the difference atm. He isn't running the line himself enough to keep the defence in two minds. He is a tough bugger, and when he puts himself at the line he tends to break it. Des needs to get him pushing the line himself a bit more. The inclusion of Brett soon should give a few more options.

My hat goes of to Robbo though. He has changed his game so much to play fullback and done it so well. It took some time, but he got there. He isn't a game breaker there, but he is solid.

To watch the bloke play, in detail, is to watch a guy that at times has NFI what he is doing...Still, Manly seem to thrive off having him there. He appears to be sh*t, yet its working, dont mess with it.

I dunno how the bloke won the Dally M. Yes, Manly won the gf 40-0. They played their best game of the year while Melb didnt turn up. Play the next day and would prob be a diff result.
That last play against the Tigers was ridiculous. Running away from the support towards T-Rex who was standing too shallow like he always does. 4 tigers to 2 Eagles.

Gus Gould is oe fo the best analysers in the game and he is always sopt on about Manly. He would never have Orford in Origin. And the NSW selectors arent stupid as well. At least for this case hehe. But I gotta give same blame to Dessie. He has to take the blame for some of the playmaking.
