Last year people were saying that Manly would be much better off without Matt Orford. Why is it this year then that people are saying that Manly will struggle without Ox, and will miss the finals?

Same thing was said about Kennedy when he left.
Orford was horrible at times last year. That game vs the Sharks which we nearly lost was diabolical.

Orford was a hack.. best thing that happened to the Storm was him leaving..
Geez.. imagine if he had of stayed and Cronk moved on to a diff club..
thats a nightmare of ever there was one..

Orford...consistent underachiever.

Problem is Manly are no better off as they did not buy a quality halfback to replace him.

Kennedy wasn't critcised as much as Orford however, so it's pretty much understandable why people thought we would slide when he departed. With Orford though, wouldn't we improve with him gone?

Why would we buy with Evans, Hodkinson, and Foran?

This is a great opportunity to start again for Manly but if Foran and co fail then I would be looking for an established half for next season.

You are not having Cronk...

Orford was captain & halfback of the team that hold the current record win in a grand final....the fact he gave that game to the Manly fans was worth all his wages hahaha, yeah 09 was a dif story. Foran Hodgo & Evans should form a partnership with Lyon in the halves or even amongst themselves, well i hope haha We played basically a whole season without our fullback last yr and with Orford misfiring & still came 5th so im hoping we can improve in 2010

Foran has yet to prove himself as a halfback yet and he's off contract.

Hodkinson & Cherry-Evans have yet to prove themselves as first graders.

If only we'd kept Robson and or Burns...

Foran has re-signed. Burns is definitely not a halfback and Robson has no creativity whatsover

I seem to recall Parramatta had Halfback troubles last year then Daniel Mortimer made his debut mid season and then the rest is history, No reason Manly cant do the same with either Foran or Hodkinson

So that's one example from how many when it comes to rookie halves taking over? Parra was an exception and not the rule. Besides, you could argue strongly that Hayne had more to do with the turn around than anything else. Without him there's no way in hell they would've made the Grand final.

There's no doubt Foran and Hogkinson have great potential and i think both will make it in the big time in the coming years, but it's a bit of a stretch to expect a smooth transition in the first year and it'll be enough to take them to the grand final. It won't.
