Castleford appoint Matterson
November 8, 2005
Castleford Tigers chief executive Richard Wright said today Matterson, 38, who has been part of the Canberra Raiders coaching staff since 2003, was chosen from a list of highly-qualified candidates.
The coming season marks our promotion back into Super League and we felt that Terry was the best qualified person to provide the level of leadership and coaching knowledge that will underpin our future, Mr Wright said.
It will be the former Brisbane Broncos and NSW Origin forwards second stint in Super League, being captain of the London Broncos in the late 1990s. The London Broncos were Super League runners-up in 1997.
Matterson, who played more than 240 first-grade matches for the two Broncos clubs, was a member of two Brisbane Broncos grand final winning teams (1992 and 1993) and represented NSW in the 1989 State of Origin series.
Matterson said today he was extremely grateful to the Canberra Raiders for releasing him from his 2006 contract to accept the Castleford Tigers offer.
Matty Elliott (Canberra Raiders head coach) has always been extremely supportive, as has the whole club, in helping me advance my coaching career, he said.
