Brenton McCallum has announced his retirement.

Clearly this is a sad day for cricket. The inventor of T20, the Original Nice Guy and inventor of sportsmanship, and the best man to have opening the batting in a world cup final. The man has achieved more than any short person ever before, and we will miss him....

Nah but seriously good bloke and a good career

He hasn't retired just yet

just retired from big bash, still gonna play on in other leagues this year

McCullum, 37, went unsold at the 2019 IPL auction in December. He will continue to play T20 cricket elsewhere in 2019 before heading into coaching. The Heat's home game against the Melbourne Stars on Friday night will be his last at the Gabba.

"I will continue to play T20 cricket in 2019 in various competitions around the world and will then look to transition into a coaching career," McCullum said. "The prospect of being able to transfer the skills, experience and leadership I have been lucky enough to bank over my long T20 and also international career into coaching is very exciting."

So you're saying he's announced his retirement?

If only someone else had said that :p

Just want to make sure the legion of Macca fans can still watch him apply his classical innovative craft in Finland and Canada and many other leagues this year before the final curtain...

Played a season too long in this BBL, but he's far from the only one guilty of that this year.
Good luck to him, I've got nothing against the bloke. Thanks for 2015 WC cup though.
Cheers.

Feels like the bbl season went one year to long

I like McCullum, always have, always been respectfull and did a lot for NZ cricket
to me anyway, always had an aura about him that he could destroy the attack on any given day/night.
That century in the first season of the IPL was one of the best
Like he has mentioned, hope he does get coaching gigs after he plays his last game, great role model and wealth of knowledge of the game
