McGuiness and Field appeal Drug Suspensions

Wests Tigers players Kevin McGuiness & Craig Field are appealing to the judiciary tonight over their suspensions for taking recreational drugs.
They have the backing of their club.
4 months back, McGuiness was found guilty of taking ecstacy while Field took cocaine.
They claim the 6 month suspensions and $200,000 were too severe.

The players reckon that they have undergone rehab treatment and involved themselves in community work since the suspensions began last March.

Interestingly though, Field is also suing the NRL claiming that the tribumal's suspension was unreasonable.

So what does everyone think...
Have they paid their debt?
Should the punishment stand or even be extended?
Should they have been suspended and fined at all?
Is Field right in counter-suing the NRL?

I think they have done their time for their misdemeanor but if I was Field I wouldn't sue the NRL. He is an idiot and the club should sack him and I don't think they need him.

Please explain why, when a player is suspended for 6 months they feel they have "served their time" after 4 months? The suspension is for 6 months they deserve to serve 6 months. Unless they can prove that they didn't take ecstacy after all- however they've already admitted to it.

Sorry, but when you get suspended for a period of time, it doesn't mean you're free to only serve two thirds of it.

Cheers.

How many crims serve their full sentence these days Hass? What about time off for good behaviour? Budda has made some progress by helping kids in the country. Each case should be viewed on it's merits but I think Budda has shown a willingness to turn things around whereas Field goes and sues the NRL. If I was Mcguiness I would be distancing himself from Field.

Suing the NRL is a joke but with the law and order these days, nothing will surprise me. But I do agree with Hass. A 6 month suspension is a 6 month suspension.

Well, what I predicted to happen did actually happen. It's no surprise that Mcguiness was allowed back in after he showed the league he can act in a responsible manner and Field was not for whatever reason but you can bet it was because of his decision to sue the NRL whcich cost him in the long run. What an idiot!!!!

I thinks it's painfully obvious why Field is still under suspension even though the NRL will never let on.
Field would have been advised by some solicitor to pursue legal action against the NRL.
IMO, this is a case which Field could never win. Yep, as you say, 'what an idiot!'

While some will argue that these were recreational drugs and non-sport related, the fact is they are on the NRL list as banned substances. The players knew that.

I was actually thinking about crims in gaol when writing that post. A judge says you've got 15 years for murder and they're out on the street after 7. The crime has still been comitted. On the converse to receiving time-off for good behaviour, make them serve their sentence and give them extra time out for "bad behaviour".

Sure McGuiness has turned it around and should be welcomed back into the comp......however not for 2 months time.

Cheers.
