THE traditional Aussie meat pie isn't known for its looks – and neither is the new meat pie pizza.
Until now, the most creative makeovers of the humble meat pie have involved stacking things on top of it. This week Domino's stacked it on something else.
The Meat Pie Pizza comes with beef mince, onions and peas topped with thick pastry and tomato sauce – and it looks about as pretty as a half-gobbled dog's eye.
But that didn't stop tourists from sampling it – after a few hesitant looks.
NEWS.com.au took one of the pizzas to the Darling Harbour foreshore, where it was scoffed down in ten minutes.
One Englishman failed to see the point after trying a slice. "If I want a meat pie, I'll buy a meat pie," he said.
Others thought it tasted as good as a Four 'N' Twenty. The driver of the Harbour's miniature bus-train even pulled over to ask for a piece (

Domino's released the pizza this week to coincide with the kick-off of the winter sports season.
"The evolution of the humble Aussie meat pie has taken a monumental leap in history, with the union of Australia's two biggest pre-game footy food rivals – meat pie and pizza," said company chief Don Meij.
Marketer Allan Collins said the new pizza was the result of three months of research and development as the company looked for a distinctly Australian taste.
Mr Collins said Domino's had committed an estimated $3 million to the pizza launch.
Domino's have looked for creative additions to their pizzas to differentiate themselves from main rival Pizza Hut.
Other items on their menu include the Meatball Pizza and the Double Bacon Cheese Burger Pizza. They can be served on bases including the Triple Ripple, which has "creamy cheese and tangy BBQ sauce" sandwiched between three layers of dough.

My wife is from the North of England. Makes her own mushy peas. A gastronomic delight.
