Iam talking about the Northern Eagles split, this isnt an issue that only effects Norths and Manly but the whole of rugby league. The question of the weekend was, How many teams are we going to have next year?

In my opinion the NRL has got itself into one hell of a tangleand if a solution is to be found loyalties are going tobe stretched to the limit. (Nothing New)

The absolute essential key is that the NRL be transparent in there finances, see what we have to work with, and then make a decision that is best for the long term future of Rugby League.

I cannot and will not ever believe that we merkin afford sixteen teams in the competition, last year we couldnt afford 14, but suddenly we can afford 15 a year after , so where's the credibility and the trust in what they say?

Can theclubs afford to have less than 13 home games?, you can bet your bottom dollar that they merkin. Do you think the players want to play more games than they do already? I dont think so.

Nevertheless I think its essential that we dont allow the 20 000 seat stadium and the massive Rugby League/sporting culture that is the central coast go to the seething cunning, evil empire that is the NSWRU/ARU. Which means that we need 16 teams.
The thing is St George Illawarra's NRL licence is held by StGeorge Illawarraso why does Manly hold the Northen Eagles licence? It would of been so much easier if the Northern Eagles held the Northern Eagles licence.

If we have 16 teams it means clubs take an annual pay cut, and to make the competition fair the players play more games or less home games
If we have 15 teams it means Rugby Union morethan likely will move to the central coast. (on the assumption that Northern fall over and Manly take the licence.)

So what needs to be done here? Should the NRL beef up the clubs annual funding?
Should the players take a pay cut? Should Souths move to the Central Coast? Should Souths get booted out again? Should another team(oh I dont know lets just say Cronulla)relocate itself to the central coast?

Oh Dear, the dilemma we got oursleves into, so who holds the answer? The NRL does, it needs to come clean with there financesproclaim what they can affordand most of all they need proactive leadership to come up with the best solution.
